BigRedMachine stopped by the shop today to talk speakers. While he was here, he agreed to pose with a new prototype.

That's all you're going to say about the prototype  C'mon Jim, what are we looking at? :eyebrows:

Needs work. But the prototype looks great.
-
Nice, but can it produce any BASS?

That's a mighty big port.

Looks like a photoshop foto.
Is this real?
The veneer looks too nice to be destroyed by that mammoth shiny woofer.
Black would probably work best. It has an icongruous look to it, the veneer makes the scale look off. Perhaps a black woofer.
Can anyone here photoshop one in as an example
Sorry ..you can't take the architect out of me.

Wow, I want specs (of the subwoofer :)).

"Things are seldom as they seem" HMS Pinafore, Act I. So Jim--I take it this wasn't done in time for April Fools Day?

I can make this thing look good, you make it sound good
First, that big ring around the perimeter must be made thinner, to work with this veneer it should be copper. I would use a black woofer and a copper phase plug.
Also the screws are too large in diameter, it brings the eyes to the center of the speaker which looks like the warhear to a 155 mm howitzer, some may like that look, especially if they have a small pee pee.
Next are the feet...too large, they draw attention to themselves, all that work on the veneer should be justified by having the eye drawn to the wood work.
You don't want it too look vulgar, it is a large piece, give it some sophistication, let it be something that doesn't look like the elephant in the room. It has to be toned down.
For example ..those Mini Coopers with the British flag on the roof, they are cool for the first few weeks , but eventually you wish you went with something more simple.

Nope. Missed that by two weeks or so.
It was done just for fun (as if I didn't have other things I should have been doing today). Notice the reflection of Pete in the side of the cabinet? Photoshop all the way.
I needed a small computer monitor. This 4" single driver speaker fits the application quite nicely. It is about 10" tall (and is not anticipated to be a product offering).

Can it really be considered an official pose without a beer?

You are right. It should not be considered official...no alcohol is allowed on the work site.

Pete was visiting the shop again today. Looking back at that huge speaker in the first post of this thread, I thought I'd give you an idea of just how imposing Big Red Machine is.
Here is a shot of him holding that massive speaker in the palm of his hand.

^ LOL!

You're going to put Bose out of business.

That looks a lot like the veneer Jim used for my speakers.
I hope he didn't use the spare veneer he's holding for my future center and surrounds :o

It looks to me like some of the veneer he was using for a pair of SoundScapes that he is building. Did he use your veneer for the SoundScapes?
