Another oldie from our Seattle days....
3-day hiking trip up to Mount Robson, B.C.
Heavy packs and ascending lots of switchbacks made this a tough trip!

gfroman. I love looking at your photos.

It also makes me a little nostalgic. My dad embraced photography his whole life but really jumped in after he retired. Might have been considered a pro-sumer if there is such a thing within photography. He was on the last leg of his journey on this earth as digital photography was on the rise. My niece (his granddaughter) took a cue from him and now works at Hallmark as a photographer.

I think Dad would have liked all that was available in the digital world, and was interested in what Jane was doing. Unfortunately,  it was late in his life and he was so invested in film that he never got a chance to explore.

All that to say; thanks for posting.

Good story - Thanks!
I also grew up in the film camera age, later switching over to digital.
The above photo was actually Fuji Velvia film, later converted to a digital file.

"Prehistoric Mushroom Field?"
This was from our camping trip to the Bisti Badlands - New Mexico.
The hoodoos, which are common in this area are the geological outcome from a process called differential erosion.
Typically a small cap of the resistant layer remains, and protects a cone of the underlying softer layer from erosion, resulting in a mushroom or fairy tower formation.

Balanced Rock - Big Bend National Park.

We hiked to this site before sunset, and waited for the stars to come out (this area is one of the Darkest areas in the USA).
Hiking back with our headlamps on, we saw 1000's of beautiful green sparkles reflecting back at us along the dark trail.
Closer observation revealed they were the eyes of 1000's of small spiders, reflecting back from the light.
The spiders hatch this time of year!!
What a spooky night.....

For anyone that was/is a hot rodder here is a shot of an icon from my youth.

This car was the fastest piston engine vehicle in the world in1965. I read everything I could about it at the time.
Four naturally aspirated Hemi's. 425 mph in third gear on gasoline....
Seeing the car at the Henry Ford Museum was real treat and brought a tear to my eye....

Here is the latest story about it's restoration: https://www.hotrod.com/articles/hrdp-0711-goldenrod/

Remembering magical Meteora!
Centuries old monasteries in Central Greece.
The area of Meteora was originally settled by monks who lived in caves within the rocks during the 11th Century.
But as the times became more unsure during an age of Turkish occupation and lawlessness, they climbed higher and higher up the rock face until they were living on the inaccessable peaks where they were able to build by bringing material and people up with ladders and baskets and build the first monasteries.

Exploring Santa Elena Canyon - Big Bend National Park.
I grew up collecting rocks and fossils.
Even today, I look at that last stratified layer near the water and wonder how old it is and what fossils are hidden there?????
