Title: Call me crazy!
Post by: Charles Calkins on 1 Apr 2011, 11:04 pm
I had Mac 352 amp plugged into a standard wall socket. I did a little rearranging of my audio gear and to simplify things I needed a surge protector to hook up the amp and a CD player and a DAC. So off to Home Depot to buy a Belkin 6 outlet surge protector($9.97) and two bags of charcoal briquets. Got home and after a 1/2 hour or so I've everything hooked up. Time to play tunes!

Call me crazy!!! But to my ears everything sounds a lot better. Seem to hear more detail, clarity and Bass. A surge protector shouldn't  make a difference but I do hear things better. Louder too. Don't have to have as much gain on the Preamp volume control. Call me crazy if you like but I'll stand by what Ive written here.

                                            Cheers
                                           Charlie
P.S.
This not an April fools joke!!

Must be the charcoal briquets! :green:--how are you using them to filter the AC?

You're NOT crazy!
Bill Whitlock writes:

In reality, many of the benefits often ascribed to “power treatment” schemes are simply
due to plugging all system equipment into the same outlet strip. For obvious reasons, this is always a good idea!

Your not necessarily crazy for the reasons you stated here, Charlie.  However....(ha)

Simply plugging and unplugging the receptacles might've removed a layer of film oxidation from the blades and allowed for a little more conductivity.

Other reasons for it, too.  Alongside all is that sometimes there is a change of sound and for merely that reason we describe it as 'better' when it's only different.  We've ALL fallen in that trap - even if some don't know it or refuse to think it can be so.

It is what is is.  If it sounds better to you, then it is better  :thumb:

If that is crazy, then I am in the loony bin myself!

Run with it my friend, and enjoy your tunes.

Even cheapies can sound better than no conditioner at all.
