There are a number of concepts that need to be clearly understood to facilitate discussion of audio dsp. Concepts such as the goals of linear or minimum phase and how they can be implemented. Specifically, FIR does NOT imply a linear phase result, and likewise, IIR does NOT imply a minimum phase result. It all depends on the implementation and what preceeds it.....

This is Stanford's
INTRODUCTION TO DIGITAL FILTERS WITH AUDIO APPLICATIONS
Ideally, one should have a vauge recall of their 200 level Linear Algebra course, and a familiarity with concepts of Abstract Algebra. (luckily, my youngest son will occasionally dain to explain such things to me).

Again, while this offers far more expository discussion, a relatively sophisticated quantitative understanding is called for.
