Freddie Redd - San Francisco Suite
That's a hard to find album at a reasonable price. Amazon has the cd priced @ $67 new $22 used. I'm from the Bay Area and have lived in SF, so the album interests me too. I like the cover.

Goodness gracious, Elizabeth, how refreshing it is to me to see you on this topic.  I know you're a music lover- so does everyone, no doubt- but I didn't know you listened to any jazz.

Now, about what I tuned in to post.  Monday nights, the groups booked at the Jazz Workshop in SF, had the those nights off.  The club grabbed whomever was available to keep the club open for the evening.  I'm walking by, just so happens, I swear, on a Monday night with no intention of looking in when I heard the proceedings and saw the band's name in the window.  I went in.  The band playing was the Albert Manglesdorff Quintet.  Just by sheer happenstance I heard some of the most mesmerizing music I had heard ever up to that point in time.  These cats who were on their way to Seattle for a extended gig:

I've heard other albums by them that I wish I could remember.  They are fairly plentiful.  This one, however, I own.  I have heard better on the German MPS label.

Thanks for the Manglesdorf tip, Jim.  I've spent the last 20-30 minutes listening on youtube, and just placed an order for one of his albums. Nice easy sound but with plenty of things happening to keep you listening.
