In the 1970s all low cost amps came with this connector system standard, now 50 years later they are releasing this thing Patent Pending as a advantage.

To my eye, those are distinctly different connectors. The linked device is using a novel wire connection method to a conventional banana plug. The other using a spring-loaded pseudo-guillotine connection  designed for bare, or perhaps tinned, wire.
The SpeakerSnap would appear to borrow heavily from WAGO idea of wire connection, which in most jurisdictions is electrical code approved. Doesn't necessarily make it good for audio signal connections but is not without precedent.
