my only issue with the 5d mk2 since going med format is noise in the blacks. i hear the nikons are better with noise.

i'm not a fan of the 24-105 as i prefer the 24-70 as it goes to 2.8 while the 24-105 is f4. go the 24-70 if your budget stretches that far

While many future improvements with 5d mk3 are speculations, much improved noise performance is reportedly one of the few certainties. 

Counting my days, as some are reporting Spring 2011 and at the latest Fall 2011 for the 5d mk3.
