$5K or less speaker thread

I wanted to take this from the discussion thread, and further discuss options.

What are some sub-$5K speakers you would recommend? You can include new or used, towers or bookshelfs, powered or unpowered, and multiple driver or single driver or other.

If you have a small tube amp try these:
1) Klipsch RF-83 used, discontinued.
2) Klipsch RF-7 new or used.
3) Decware MG-944 used, discontinued.

4) Lii Audio F-18 FR driver $520usd pair to OB panel.

5) DIY with Beyma 12KX Coaxial, 300W AES, 98dB, 100L to 110L BR box, beyma xover at 1800Hz, single point source and great deep bass.

What is your room size? What amp do you have or plan to use? What types of music, if any, are a priority for you?

In the systems that you have heard, have you enjoyed spaciousness and imaging or been more concerned with bass texture and tone, for example?

Recommendations will be more useful if you can give some insight into your existing system, room, and other equipment you plan to use.

I'm not Charles, but I can imagine the 708p would be on the list, quite amazing speakers for $4k.

I own the A500SE, slightly above $5k limit.  But have also owned the JBL 708P, a wonderful active 2-way using an 8 inch woofer that is under $4k.

Actives are very dynamic and produce deep/full bass for the given cabinet size.  They can be equipped with EQ and other niceties. For instance the A500SE (an average sized monitor) are rated 25-40,000Hz +/- 1.5 dB.

I would suggest Reference 3A De-Capo BE Speakers with accompanying stands ( under $4K )  will shock you. In many cases doubling the money spent will not be any better...Crazy good speakers........

You always spend money on the best speakers.  But you've only kept one of two pair for the long haul if I recall..  Are you guessing these will be one of the keepers?   How's the deep base on these, those movie soundtrack level cuts?  Perhaps in comparison to other full rangers you've liked?

GR Research NX-Studios.  Best bookshelf speakers I've heard, regardless of price.

When built from a kit, my LS9's are in the $5000 range.  There are few better.

A500SE are not head bangers, but play plenty loud for my senior tastes.  They seem to do everything I need/want and are small enough when it comes time to relocate to smaller digs.  They have a modern slant on sound reproduction (lack mid-bass body that old timers have).  I have a separate AV system for movies.

When it comes to any of the Klipsch towers (past or present), are there ones you would avoid and/or skip for any reason?

Avoid 3 ways due complex xover,  I dont like the Heritage line also,  expensive and cheap steel frame woofers,  not tô mention the Cabinets.
I like only these two models I mentioned, they are cheap when used and are two ways,  IMO.
Also avoid SS amps with horn drivers or speakers.
