Pretend you have up to $3000 to buy an integrated SS amp. Which would you buy?

This thread has taken on a life of its own. I suppose SS could be misconstrued to mean stainless steel.

I'm sure it would have died if the original post title was "Which should I buy?" rather than "Which would you buy?" and you actually bought one!

  • To whom more was given more will be required.

Has for a long time, I think it's basically a Khartago with a volume control.

I have seen it for years, what would be good would be a Stratos with a 6SN7 tube preamp in the same chassis, Candela not count.

I'll revive this thread again since I was also looking for a SS amp and happily found a used Pass INT-25 (the XA25 with and a built in  preamp).   There were no options to audition so I bought it purely on the awesome reviews and the Pass Labs reputation.   I also like the very simple design of the amp, it has exactly what I need and nothing more. Class A for the first 25 watts.  The Absolute Sound review of the Micromega did mention a "meaningful improvement" with the Pass XA 60.8 monoblocks compared to the Micromega.  I'm guessing you would get the same improvement, and maybe more, with the INT-25.

Hands down, a Hegel. I’ve had my Rost for two weeks now. All I can say is WOW.

Are Hegels Class D?

They seem to be Class AB but I can be wrong.

Solid State only, please.

New or used; 150w/ch minimum. DAC included is a plus, but not absolutely necessary.

It depends on the speakers it will power.

Don't tempt me! I came close to buying the one here on AC but went the Hegel route.

Nope, Class A/B.

They do have a lot of technology built into their amps and do things a little different. Here is a link.

I was fortunate to listen to a Hegel H160 powering a pair of Harbeth M20.1 speakers in Taiwan a couple years ago. [I believe they're nearly identical to the PS7ers.] I was astonished by how much bass came out of the small speakers.
