Title: blu ray audio only 48khz/24bit??

hi, guys!

i just purchased Rolling Stones "GRRRR" album (blu ray audio). my Bryston BDA-1 dac tells me that it is just 48khz (cannot see the incoming 'bit' but i assume it is 24 bit). the disc should give a PCM 96/24 output signal as far as i understand the specs...

anyone knows what is going on? could it be some kind of copyright things that doesn't allow to get a 96khz signal from the disc?

This must be BluRay misconception day!  Sorry, but this is the third question like this about BluRay connections today!

BluRay audio is limited to 48k via coax/toslink (i.e to your Bryston DAC).  Period.  Always has been.  If you want more than that (like the LPCM 24/96 layer) then go HDMI and de-embed it with an HDMI de-embedder solution I wrote about 3 years ago this month:

I don't for sure about the Stones Bluray in the OP, but as Ted knows a huge number of music Blurays DO have only 24/48 audio, although it is sometimes in a 24/96 "shell".  Fortunately for us, more and more Blurays are being released with true 24/96 or 24/192 sound.

Regardless, though, you're only going to get 16/48 from a Bluray through S/PDIF.
