Some great games over the years that I've enjoyed
« on: 5 Sep 2010, 05:48 pm »
I have been a video gamer on and off for the past 27 years.  In the early days it was the Atari 5200, Apple II and Commodre 64.  I didn't own the Colecovision or Neo Geo, but I have owned just about every other gaming platform.  I have been doing a little reminiscing about the games I have had the most fun with over the years...in no particular order.

Ultima V - C64 (probably my favorite RPG of all time)
Might and Magic Clouds of Xeen, Might and Magic Darkside of Xeen - PC
Half Life - PC
Syndicate - Commodre Amiga
Fallout - PC
Little Big Planet - PS3
Falcon 4.0 - PC (the flight sim that justified spending a few hundred $$ on a Thrustmaster stick and throttle setup)
Dungeon Keeper - PC
Powerstone - Dreamcast
Populous - PC
Super Mario Brothers 3 - SNES
Command and Conquer - PC
Tekken 3 - Playstation
Halo - Xbox
Warcraft - PC
F-15 Strike Eagle - PC
God of War III - PS3
X-COM: UFO Defense - PC (insanely difficult and totally addictive)
Gunship - Amiga
The Bard's Tale - C64
Super Mario 64 - N64 (I still think this is one of the best video games ever made)
Panzer General - PC (I was a huge fan of SSI's turn-based strategy wargames on the C64 and PC)
Diablo - PC
Soul Calibur - Dreamcast
Doom - PC
Banjo Kazooie - N64
Red Dead Redemption - PS3 (so far I'm into this one for about 24 hours of gameplay and am only 50% through it)
Gears of War - Xbox 360
Grand Theft Auto IV - PS3
Left for Dead - PC

I'm sure there are a ton of games that I really enjoyed but just couldn't recall.  Take a trip down memory lane and let us know about the games that were special to you.

Some of my faves:

Bionic Commando - NES
Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 - Dreamcast (THE game for my friends and I during High School)
Soul Calibur - Dreamcast
Ice Hockey - NES
Madden '95 (I think) - Genesis
NFL 2K - Dreamcast
Final Fantasy 7 - PS1
All Super Mario Bros games except Mario 64 (sorry, I just couldn't get into various Nintendo 64 games) - Nintendo platforms
Double Dragon - NES
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 - NES
Contra - NES
World of Warcraft - PC
Legend of Zelda - NES
Duke Nukem - PC
DOOM - PC
Wii Sports - Wii

Man, there's just too many to list...I was a hardcore gamer from the time I was a little kid (27 now) and have owned nearly every system.  Neo Geo one of the few myself and my closest friend have not been able to/wanted to obtain.  I actually find that the further gaming gets technology-wise, the faster I get bored gaming.  There's just something about 2D that works IMHO.  I've been playing the new Super Mario Brothers for Wii and loved it...but the Mario Galaxy 2 game, while very good, just didn't suck me in.

Of all the games I've owned...World of Warcraft, Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, and Soul Calibur were probably my 3 favorite games, but I could be forgetting some.  Oddly enough, fighting games are usually the ones I tire of the fastest.  Those two were just amazing.

Lots of good stuff mentioned...
Naturally the early PC System Shock, UUnderworld were great, loved Thief, had a couple of orbs that made 1st persons fun as hell, MW series but my real fav for the PC was the Descent series with the orb it was a trip.

Had all the game consoles in the 80's, early 90's all mod'd to play imports except the NES, fav was the Turbo mod'd for the import shooters and Rpgs'.  way ahead of its time with the cd audio for the Rpg's. That voice acting was great stuff.
We had a room in the basement with a mux to a monitor and 2ch setup.  Boys werer into all the sports games and fighters, moi was the import rpgs and shooters.

I have only played on PC. Loved System Shock.
I also enjoy Vampire the Masqurade Bloodlines now that patches exist to fix the bugs. Great dialog in that game.
The game that never ends for me is Morrowind. Now that Tamriel Rebuilt exists the game has new life. Just a HUGE game.

Agreed.  I went to a real boxing match last weekend and dubbed the fight to my girlfriend in Punchout noises  :green:

Not so old, but Shadow of the Colossus for PS2 was classic.  And it will be re-released next year for PS3, I'll definitely buy that.

Anyone know anything about NBA Jam for Wii?  I really enjoyed that one on Sega Genesis.
