Bryston & JBL Project Array ... New Member!!
« on: 9 Jul 2008, 03:41 am »
Hello Everyone, I came across this forum while searching for some information on the potential combination of my 3B and a pair of JBL Project Array 1400's.  Does anyone have experience with Bryston and any of the Project Array's?  Any help, thoughts, or input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Great speaker! I would go for a least a 4B on those. I run a 4B on the lower echelon L890s, and the results are superb.

Oh ya a 4B SST would be the eventual goal once the speakers are in place  aa

Now I just need to find some with some info on this match!

Cool. Also, those speakers are a good candidate for bi-amping, imo. So, consider that as well.

I agree the sound from these speakers is quite unique.  JBL is really the main compression driver manufacture I have not any other brands with this type of driver.  To date they are my 1st choice after listening to about 7 - 8 other brands.

One question I do have though ... what is your impression of these speakers at moderate to higher volumes ... lets say half way up the dial and above?

Also, what type of speaker cable and interconnects are you using for your set up?

Thanks.

I have a 7.1 setup that includes the 1400s, 880 centre, 1000s, and HT4vs powered by a 4B SST and a 9BSST along with an HTPS400 sub. This combination sounds fantastic. It is better than anything else I could find after searching for over a year and a 1/2.The sound feels alive and real The clarity and detail  is more than I had hoped to achieve before finding Ron at his shop, Altronics, in Etobicoke. One result has been a reconnection with vinyl that I had thought had been lost. I am extremely glad that I followed his advice.

Hey James, why not go all the way and go for the K2's, or the Everest?

Here you go:

K2: http://www.jbl.com/Home/k2_story/default.aspx

Everest: http://www.jbl.com/home/products/product_detail.aspx?prod=DD66000EB&CheckProduct=Y

Hi Dave - what are the US price points and do you think it is a quality difference or just sound pressure level capability?

James, the K2 is $30,000/pair, and the Everest I believe is $60,000/pair

Very expensive stuff there.

Not sure, I haven't heard both side by side. I did hear the Everest at CES 2007, and I was bowled over. At that price, I should have been!

Interesting topic. I have not had 'Horns' since my very first system - a pair of Klipsch La Scala!
How do you think the JBL Horns compare with the more esoteric designs like AvantGarde etc.?

Well, I dunno really. I've never heard the AvantGarde's. Sorry about that.

Have you ever heard the big Tannoy's (Prestige series?) Those are good too.

Today I picked up my 7B's hooked everything up and I am exremely happy with my purchase  aa

I can't wait until I have the 1400's in my room to go along with the amps ... right now I'm using a pair of Def Tech and it's nice to hear them open up but it's nothing like what the compression drivers have to offer.

James it would be very interesting to hear your view point if you decide to bring this in.

Thanks.

Hi Dave,

I am doing the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest Show next week and we are sharing the room with Tannoy so maybe I will have a chance to hear them.
