John Coltrane's A Love Supreme, tracks two thru four (Impulse). Defining and devining stuff. After this he spun off his gyroscope. I can't help but wonder how many of his albums subsequently were contract fulfillments. Meditations seemed genuine, however, but too dark and turgid. Too much so for me and I adored the cat. Seen him live many times with this quartet at The Jazz Workshop in SF. With as much money as SF takes in from tourism, how could they not rescue the place. It became a tit bar in the seventies with a short renaissance. Then, I don't know. Nor do I know where jazz lovers hear their favorite music in SF these days.
