Material will be here tomorrow. I purchased 2 plates that measure 1"x8.5"x14". The total for two plates was $104.

Rick said he will be shipping the drivers out today or tomorrow :)

Can't wait!

$63 per "board foot" for raw material!

I know you're not in the speaker enclosure business, but if you ever were to offer to build some speaker enclosures like these, what do you think the parts & labor for a finished anodized pair could run?

If i were to make a few sets..... I'd charge $5,000-$6,000 for an all black set. A little more for red/black because they charge to change dyes at the anodizers.

Just aluminum, drivers/crossovers and anodizing would cost $3,000 (cost me).

The material for the front baffles arrived this morning and some blocks for my custom NC400 cases  8)

MIC-6 aluminum comes with a protective plastic sheet to prevent transport scratches. It is naturally very shiny, not something i want.... So i used an orbital sander and made the finish more consistent with the rest of the speaker cabinets.

UPS shows the drivers should arrive Monday, that gives me time to bang out the amp cases people paid for.

Made the front baffles today. Tomorrow i will assemble everything and take my first listen :)

Started out milling the width down to 8.500"

Machined the length, cut the woofer and tweeter cutouts and drilled and tapped all the holes.

Flipped the part over, machined a 5/8" radius on the woofer cut out and added 1/4-20's for platters to rack on.

Kraemer,
Thanks for keeping us up to date. Are your Veritas sealed or ported? I don't think
you'll need any bracing, lol-

Hi Paws,

They are sealed and no i definitely don't need any bracing  :green:

With 1" thick AL plate, it's more than rigid enough but with 3/4" on down, i would probably have added a cross member.

Got everything done today, minus the anodizing, which i will do in a few weeks, so i can let the speakers break in a little bit and to enjoy the sound :)

They went together great!!

Before with the GR Research N2X kit...

Now for the Selah Verita :)

I can't make a final say on which speaker is better because i have only been listening for an hour but i will no more as time comes. There is a definite level of detail that has increased and imaging is better.

I look forward to more impressions but this pretty much sums it up I think.  Big difference in cost of the kit but you got what you paid for.

Direct cost for me is about $3,000, not including the labor, which is a lot :)

Very true Jason, Some times you can pay so much money for only a small gain but i think it's well worth it

And i like building things  8)

Now you know why YG would charge $15k for what you just made.

The bass is not as prominent but maybe the N2X had boomy bass, i have the speakers in the exact same spots before and after. It does sound more tight and focused.

Only one way to know for sure but few seem to want to do it.   :duh:

Plus i'll never really know if the old baffle truly effected the sound, i don't think it did but maybe it did.......

matt,

impressive! have you thought using thinner alum but with a structured bracing inside? Magico does this, im not familiar with their speakers but many are impressed with their speakers.

cheers

Matt, still very nice looking speakers!  Just wondering, since you could maybe do it before sending the baffles in to anno, how about a recess to flush mount the tweeter?  Might be splitting hairs, but it could be worth doing?
