Yuja Wang live - piano too soft?
« on: 13 Oct 2015, 03:55 am »
Did anyone attend the Yuja Wang concert at the Jacobs Music Center in San Diego on October 11? Or, has anyone seen Yuja Wang live at all? Did you think that her piano playing was softer than expected? It seemed to get buried by the orchestra at times, specially the lower registers.

So I found a review from James Chute who basically agrees with me.  Here is his comment
"In Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 9, Ling nearly overwhelmed normally irrepressible soloist Yuja Wang. Wang is a powerhouse pianist and her natural tendency is to lean forward."
you can read more about it if you wish http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/2015/oct/10/san-diego-symphony-wang-review/
Nevertheless, the concert was fantastic and worth seeing Yuja play.  She is amazing!

Having seen her live, watched her Prokofiev on Youtube, pretty stunning performance!
