How did the Musical Fidelity A5 age?
« on: 13 Aug 2021, 07:11 pm »
I'm more of an old school audiophile and haven't kept up much with newer technology.

The Musical Fidelity A5 always intrigued me 10+ years ago and came across a used one.  How do you think these aged in relation to newer technology?  I would think the newer integrated's with newer DAC's and/or digital amps would do more now days for the money.

The A5 is going for around $1k-1,200 nowdays, not sure what you could get for that for "newer" tech.

I owned a MF A5 integrated from 2010 to 2020.

Built like a tank, gobs of clean power, decent phono stage, and had an HT Direct feature that I used all the time to switch between Home Theater and old-school 2 channel.

Tonally balanced and neutral; I'd recommend it.

The only reason I sold it is because I wanted to go up to the next level sonically and went with a Luxman L509x.

It 'aged' very well!

Thank you.
I recall an ex-MF dealer saying the only reason they dropped them is because they didn't sell due to the price.
He said they were excellent products just priced too high.

  • To whom more was given more will be required.
    • Never go to a psychiatrist, adopt a straycat or dog. On the street they live only two years average.

@ Zathras
How did the MF A5 compare to the Luxman L509? I have been contemplating the L509 or the L590.
