What was that one piece of equipment you regret selling??

Hi Guys,

What was that one piece of gear you really miss and regret selling?

In my case I've always regretted selling my Spread Spectrum Technologies Son of Ampzilla. At the time I had a dream of buying a pair of Salk Sound HT3's which are notoriously difficult to drive.  I bought a pair of Ampzilla mono blocks for a great price so I upgraded them and later I bought my dream speakers.  Anyway fast forward and a divorce later I just don't have the room at the moment to use them in my main system. Over the past 18 months I've accumulated secondhand gear and the final piece has been buying a NOS Son of Ampzilla for $1500usd.

I've got to say the system is sounding really nice with the addition of the SOA amplifier.

Cheers Rod

A pair of modified MMGs, a B&K ST-202 amp, a VPI HW-19 Jr.  I wish I had kept them all, but not enough to buy another example of them.

I miss my tube amps from 10-15 years ago when I first got started in hifi, more because of nostalgia than anything else. My current class D amp serves me much better.

My waterfall bubinga HT3's.

My TRL Dude preamp.

Most significant, impactful pieces I ever owned.

Another vote for the TRL Dude preamp. I had the TRL 225 Samson amp as well. Shouldn't have let that go either. Live and learn.....

Absolutely nothing. Every step selling was a step up.

I used to miss my Sugden A28B from the early 90’s.   Kept it for 12 years but then sold it off to play with digital amps and other speakers.

Last year I traded a power amp for a mid/late 90’s Sugden Optima 140.  Lovely.

The original Philharmonic Philharmonitor loudspeaker. Unlike other regrets like everyone else's, no one will sell theirs. There simply aren't any to buy used.  Period. (Though I suppose if I offered a stupidly large amount of money....)

I regret getting rid of my Pass INT-30A, even though it was strictly a winter amp due to the climate I live in.

Are you sure?

Take a look at "sold / expired" on hifishark.com, in the past 2 years four pair have been offered FS.

My first good power amplifier, a GAS Son of Ampzilla, bought new in 1978. Not because I miss the sound, but just for its "cool" factor, though that diminished a bit when the meter lights went out. Each successive upgrade brought better sound, fortunately (B&K ST-140, Emotiva BasX A-300, PS Audio M700s). This photo is not my amp, but one I found on the web, though mine was this version - single flat face plate and no rack handles. Because of the meters, my brother used to joke that the little power-on LED was the dictionary definition of "superfluous."

I miss the rare Mitsubishi DP-EC2 turntable I bought in 1978. The table was direct drive, semi-automatic, quiet with a heavy dense base and a beauty. My stereo and the Mitsubishi was stolen in 1985 (downtown Tucson was a rough place back then). I had renter's insurance which paid me full price for everything so I replaced the Mitsubishi with a Harman Kardon T55C which I still use.

There's the original and the New Philharmonitor. But I usually don't look at hifishark. But thanks. I'll check more frequently.
