We run the range of about 300-600 kWh per month for all months except August (about 1,000 kWh), with the highest in the hot summer months.  The electric goes up substantially in the winter given the electricity needed to run the furnace fan, but not as high as the highest summer months.  July/Sept are about 600, and January about 500.  Spring/Fall months are around 300-400.

1850 sqft 1950's three bedroom ranch home, central air, natural gas heat and water, but electric dryer and AC.  Me and a roommate.  I'm totally into energy conservation, and he's absent-minded.  I'm getting ready to spend about $6-7K on exterior wall insulation, crawl space insulation, and a lot more attic insulation.  Together should be able to cut current consumption by another 40-50% if the models are accurate.

Crazy Kansas weather - cold in winter and hot in summer, crazy thunderstorms and tornados in between.  We get it all.

I don't use AC except in evenings when I'm home, and I keep summer evening temps at 78 while asleep and 82 while awake.  Winter temps are 65 in evenings, 60 while asleep.

I live in an apartment because i would go insane at 60 F or 65F.
I have to have it warm in the winter, like 78F. MINIMUM.
So apartment living is for me 100%, as i could never afford to pay for the heating to keep a house at 78F with it 10F outside.
I always live in the 'middle' too, no corners for me!! too cold!

I just wear extra layers in winter and have a nice comforter.  Problem solved.

934 kwhr last month; max around 1,500 kwhr (hard to calculate, as I threw away the records and the bill has a chart with monthly daily averages).  A smaller raised ranch, with no central AC.  Summer is by far the highest use, due to many window AC units.  Oil heat and oil hot water.

Oh yeah, I pay 17.02 cents/kwhr.

323 kWh. for the month of March. Probably 25-30% more in summer.
My NYC 'Cave' is small and cozy.
I always check to see if I used less than the same time the previous year, and mostly I do use less. The actual energy I use cost me about $30., however the cost to get it to my apt is a whopping $58.  :o
Figure that out.

Hey!

Martin, I know that your apt is smaller than my but how the heck do you manage to use more electric than me? Not like you are running 1000 watts tube amp or something

Anyway, my apt here in Queens, NYC is about 800-900sq ft I think. And here is my Con Ed bill for May-June 2011...

Yeah, the delivery charge is more than the actual electricity usage charge  The chart show my usage since July 2010. Look like I used more last year during the same period of time. If I remembered right last Aug was very hot and I used lots of air cons.... still less usage than lots of people here

Anyway, my stereo system with SET amps, tubed pre and PS Audio P600 power regenerator are in no way efficient when is come to electrical usage. Not to mention that I usually have to have my window air con on while listening to my system during hot weather.

But I do try to save electricity other way. All my light bulbs are CFL, only a few are low wattage halogens. And I don't leave light on when I'm not using it and unplug things I don't use.

I can save more if I switch to Class-D amp, but that ain't going to happen.

Take care,
Buddy  :thumb:

I pay 36 cents/kwhr.

Just got a solar proposal for a system to produce 29 kwhr/day. System cost $45K, with federal
and state tax credits payback period is 6 years.

Mine produces about 35 kWhr/day and with all the whistles and bells including the live data uploading stuff on the link above, was about $33K before credits and tax breaks.  Someone on a different thread also commented that the company I used charges too much, so you might want to get other quotes.

How many panels do you have and what brand are they?

Between 1,500 & 2,500 per month for a 2244 sq. ft. all electric rental on a well.  I work from home and the air conditioning is running almost 24-hours-a-day here in SWFL.

It's running right around $285 per month.

In comparison it is way under what we were using in our 3700+ sq ft. home in Northern CA and only about 1/3 the cost.

Here is the skinny:   http://tinyurl.com/wgsolar
They were installed by a company called RealGoods Solar  I'd have to look up the exact make of the panels if you want that.

Thanks for the info, it's a big help in evaluating the proposals I've received.
They're proposing using 28 Sun Power 240 watt panels and two inverters (I have two meters on the house), and claiming the material costs are $31K.

We have one microinverter for every two panels, which is more expensive than one or two non-micro-inverters, but has some advantages.  Is yours off-grid?  Ours is tied to the grid.  I'm happy to give you as much info as you need.

I heard pros and cons about the micro inverters.

If I install a system, it will be tied to the grid for net metering.

Appreciate the help.

In the Phoenix, AZ area, we use a maximum of about 2,600 kWh in Aug, and a minimum of about 1,000 kWh in Mar. for 2,250 sf all electric. with A/C heat pump, and pool pump.
