Maria Schneider Orchestra. A protege of Gil Evans according to some. She has shown up many times (well, she doesn't record often) in Down Beat's best orchestra reader's poll (and here, once or twice), but this is my first exposure to her. Her writing and orchestration is very becoming. Very, very nice listening. Plan to put another of her recordings on my player. Girl got something going on.

Phil Upchurch- Tell The Truth! (Blue Note). His take on Dave Brubeck's "Take Five" is worth the price of admission. Recommend you downloaders download this. Seriously. Think Gabor Szabo.
