I seldom recommend anything. Everyone's taste is different, and none are the same. But this is so uncommon that I have to recommend. I became a big fan of Valery Ponomarev. His performance at Live at Vartan-006 is superb. So excellent that I became a fan.You must hear him to believe it.I am including a photo of the album so anyone can order it.this is what one reviewer said:"If you know what real jazz is all about this is the recording for you."

Jazzy I'll add this one to my list.  Thanks!

Billie Holiday
All or Nothing at All
Analogue Productions 2012 reissue of the LP (1 SACD) as part of their Verve Series

A very nice way to wake up!  Great story telling by Billie and the amazing musicians behind her.  Analogue Productions did a very nice job (no surprise) with this one.

Billie Holiday – vocals
Harry "Sweets" Edison – trumpet
Ben Webster – tenor saxophone
Jimmy Rowles – piano
Barney Kessel – guitar
Red Mitchell – bass (1957 date only)
Joe Mondragon – bass
Alvin Stoller – drums

I dug up this sample of the album for others that were intrigued by JazzyGuy's review and recommendation.  Reminds me a bit of Doc Severenson?  I'm going to keep an eye out for a copy.

RSD reissue. White vinyl. What were they thinking?
An interesting fact about The Lady who Sang the Blues. She almost never sang the Blues. Sad songs do not the Blues make.

Hi & I'll add my 'Welcome' jazzyguytheone, to the jazz thread. :thumb:  Yes, I think I can say we all note each others posts, we just don't always have or take the time to make note as jimd & ACHiPo  have. No slight intended, and don't think your contributions aren't appreciated. Keep 'em coming, some good lookin' stuff there. As was noted everyone's tastes differ, and speaking for myself, I don't always take time to check out samples or research a given album at the time it's posted.   8)

Jazzy -

Welcome, and what AD said.

Your volume of posting is tough to keep up with, but I have looked up on Allmusic some of your posts that were completely new to me.

And I played the link ACHiPo posted to the album you recommended, I got a 'Maynard Ferguson' vibe from it. Not something I'd run out to buy, but would pick up if I stumbled over it in any of the record stores I haunt.

Again, welcome, and keep listening and posting.

Valery Ponmarev:  Autumn in New York Sample

I attended his concert in Queens more than a year ago. Was very impressed by the whole group and his tenor sax player in particular.
