:thumb: on both points.

I'm just glad Dex kicked the 'horse', I like his playing too much to think it might have been cut short.

As for KoB, just gave a copy to 2 different co workers who like music but weren't sure how to approach jazz, if KoB doesn't capture their interest then nothing will.
That is what a former roommate and mentor did to me a long time ago.  Before meeting this man, I knew and loved blues cause of the time and place I reached puberty but had no idea about jazz beyond a few white West Coast players.  Kind of Blue initiated me into a whole nuther world.

Somebody hip me.  The last great jazz tenor sax player and composer I know of is Branford Marsalis.  Surely there are some cats playing w/o major releases like him.  Somebody hip me.  I heard a man I'd like to hear more of on a small label release named Samir Zarif.

Wayne Shorter "JuJu"

(I like using "House of Jade" to audition speaker placement. The piano has a some nice up and down runs that help me get into place.)

I saw "DeJohnette's Direction's" at the Amazing Grace in Evanston, IL back in the mid-seventies with Abercrombie & Holland. They did most of Gateway and ended the show with Abercrombie's "Timeless". An amazing show!

Medeski, Martin, & Wood:    Friday Afternoon in the Universe      1995

CB - am sure that was one sweet show. Never had the chance to see either Abercrombie or DeJohnette that I'm aware of, but I missed a lot of live jazz in the late 60s & early 70s. Was listening, but more focused on the R&R live scene. A shame as there was A LOT going on in Indy I didn't know about then. Did get to see Les McCann & Eddie Harris circa '73, with Herbie Hancock & the Headhunters opening for them. Great show as well.

Clifford Jordan Quartet Live at Ethell's (a Mapleshade CD).  Very immediate and live w/o dynamic compression.  Monk's Round Midnight is nicely done as are others. but don't take my word for it, take the word of that enthusiastic lady in the audience.

'Lyric Suite for Sextet' is structurally almost more of a classical work than a jazz piece, but it is an album I am (re)discovering lately.

(Hey, CactusBob, you can't miss with anything by Joe Pass.)
