At  first i thought no problem. But after looking around all of the ones i have seen have a hd tuner but do not playback in hd but regular res. The only way i have been able to find this out is by reading online manuals or reviews by consumers.Any suggestions?  Thanks

I think the powers that be don't want that kind of recorder on the market - I can't even record from HBO in SD anymore  :x

That kind of functionality will take a bleeding-edge PC-based solution.

You can build one in an HTPC chassis with external storage array.  It's kind of a hassle getting all the software to play nice together but it can be done.  I'm not aware of anything stock off the shelf that will do it.  I do have one vendor who has something in the works - not  sure if it's done yet.  Will check and get back to you.

There's the HD Tivo, but I don't think that is what you had in mind.

I was looking at the HD PC option late last year, but at that time you could not get a video card that does HDMI audio, so I am waiting until I can build a PC that can support 7 ch uncompressed PCM over HDMI
