626se as center channel
« on: 3 Aug 2005, 04:10 pm »
Just a quick question...

There is a 626se over on audiogon for cheap that the guy was using as a center channel.  I would like to add a center channel, but my question is would the non ribbon tweeter work well with my tricked out 626r's?  Can I get a ribbbon from Brian to replace the non ribbon in the speaker?  It's cheap, so it seems like a good idea.  Any thoughts?

Thanks

The 626SE is an entirely different speaker than the 626R.

The only thing they have in common is the cabinet, and that the 626R evolved from the 626 and 626SE

The true and original 626got its name from the drivers used.  That is, a 6" driver, 2" driver, and 6" driver in an MTM set up.

Actually the real designation was QSO626 which meant Quasi-Second Order, refering to the x-over.

The current 626R has only one 6.5" woofer, a Neopanel, and ribbon tweeter.

The 626SE cannot be retro-fitted to match.

I am using the cones and dome 626's for my rear surrounds and am very happy with the sound. However, for the center I would want the best match I could get with the ribbons up front, as a lot of information is coming from the center in a 5.1 setup. I guess it depends on your budget and your ears. Good luck!
