Title: help for Haiti
Post by: Daedalus Audio on 14 Jan 2010, 06:58 pm
the suffering in Haiti is immense, one great organization that really helps is Doctors Without Borders, unlike many of the big charities they have almost no overhead so most of the donation actually goes to help the suffering. here is a link:

I just did what I could for now and will donate a percentage of orders to them for the rest of the month.

if anyone knows of other organizations that can help and where most of the money actually goes to services, please share that info!

thanks,
lou

Thanks for doing this Lou--A wonderful thing to do :thumb:

Another great organization helping out in Haiti is World Vision. I have sponsored two children in Africa for several years through World Vision. More than 87% of donations go to on the ground, in the country work. The link to the World Vision Haiti donation site is http://donate.worldvision.org/OA_HTML/xxwv2ibeCCtpItmDspRte.jsp?funnel=dn&item=1958776&ppi=14207210&section=10324&go=item&xxwvCampaign=1120034

I second Laura's recommendation of World Vision as a quality organization with low expense ratios.  We've sponsored kids there as well and they have already communicated to us that the current ones we sponsor in Haiti are ok.  I work for a very large fortune 50 company that also provides donor matching to this org which makes it even better.  Do what you can - you won't miss it.
