One of my Omega 3 died
« on: 12 Feb 2022, 05:17 pm »
I had taken my tube system down for a couple years. I bought a Sonos Amp for my Omega 3i and Rhythmik Sub. I waited 7 months for the Sonos as it was on backorder. Then, one channel went out. I assumed it was the amp. I tested another set of speakers I had lying around. They worked fine. I had an issue with the Omegas a couple year back where one of the leads inside the speakers got disconnected. So, next, I opened up the dead Omega, but all leads were intact.

Sad day :(

That is very strange. So it worked the last time you used it and there is no sound whatsoever? Is there any physical damage to the speaker? You said that you had problems with that speaker before and it was some kind of connection problem. Maybe something similar now? Is the internal wire of the speaker itself OK? I would contact Louis and see about replacing the driver.

If the speaker is still open, can you try to directly place your speaker cables on the actual leads coming off the actual speaker?  Seems like even if the speaker were broken in some way, you’d always get some noise out of it.  It almost has to be a connection issue.

Hey!

Assuming all both + and - leads are connected and not loose or fell off at the speaker terminal and binding posts. If you have a multimeter, set it to "Ohm" and test to see if the voice coil is open. Good luck.

If the driver is dead, let Louis know and he can sell you a replacement.  Last I checked they were $80 each.
