Edited -> You guys do your thing, I don't want to step on any toes.

Happy to help you 'get it going', if needed.

Cheers,
Russ

No problems there, Russ.  I know I appreciated the offer.

I think the difficulty might simply be the size of the Metroplex.  I'd love to pop in on a shootout/get-together regardless of location, but it gets difficult if the meet is on a week night and that location is also over an hour away.

Come on guys/gals, let's get this fledgling circle properly launched with a weekend shootout!  (I'd offer, but I'm in research mode and starting from scratch.)  Anyone willing to act as host sometime in the next month?

I'm willing to host a small get-together in the near future, as long as people don't mind my modest system set-up.

I just purchased a pair of Merlin VSM-MX, and am doing the break-in on them.  So, we can listen to some music and do a bit of A/B listening between my Ambience and Merlin.

Let me know.  btw...I live in an average sized loft in downtown Dallas.

Nothing wrong with that.  Now we just need a few people to bring other components to plug in and compare!

I wasn't familiar with the Merlin's, so I just looked up their web page... wow!  It looks like an interesting speaker.   If you think the $10k list price  is modest, however, what do you call high-end?

Did you get them from a local dealer?  If so, let me know and I'll add them to the NT dealer's page.

The offer is generous regardless of conditions - and much appreciated!

Do you have any thoughts on what dates/times might work for you?

brj,

You're correct in that those Merlins are not inexpensive; however, I didn't pay anywhere near the 10k retail as I purchased them gently used.

As far as timing, I'm thinking around mid/late September or early October as the Merlins need time to break-in.

There doesn't seem to be much interest in our "Jam" group.

Give it a little time, I facilitated a club many years ago and it took a few months to build momentum.

I remember at CES a few years back I listened to the Merlin monitors driven by Joule Electra amps, the system was very impressive.  The owner (Bobby?, can't remember his name) had great taste in music!

Must.... find.... air conditioning..... ARGH! :)

(Actaully, we've been "cooler" than normal this summer, but you must have shipped us some of your humidity, lonewolfny42, because it has been worse than usual!)

We're working on it!  We have kyyuan looking to host a jam later this month, and marvda1 is willing to host some mini-jams on an add-hoc basis.  I've been traveling quite a bit lately, so my personal research has slowed to a crawl, but once I get a system put together and broken in, I'll host a session as well (although don't expect this for several months yet).  Once we get people interacting a bit in the "real" world, I'm hoping things will move a bit faster.
