Title: Your Christmas wish list....
Post by: Laundrew on 20 Nov 2010, 02:20 pm
It is almost that time of year when Christmas trees - not holiday trees, will be making their annual appearance once again. Be still my beating heart as I fondly reminisce of last year’s cornucopia of black draped gifts, black gift wrap-paper, does it get any better? Anyway, do you have a wish list for this year? Perhaps this is the perfect avenue to leave subtle hints of your wish list for your significant other…

Be well…

Just bought a D90 last summer.  I only have the 18-105 kit lens but plan to add the 70-300 and a macro eventually.  Nice camera.  That being said a pair of Revel Ultima Sudio2's, Martin Logan Summit X's or Thiel CS 3.7's will do.  I think I like the Summits best, yeah make it the Summits :D.

Would not expect this from my significant other, but if Santa wanted to leave some goody under the tree, a new Bryston SP-3 processor would be nice.  Don't know it's even been released yet, but if it's a Bryston, it's for sure going to be an excellent product.

Not that I am unhappy with my current Meridian (quite the contrary, I still love it).  But the Meridian is "somewhat" dated (10 years old).  It lacks the latest versions of the multichannel decoding algorithms and some other modern amenities.  But Meridian's Trifield algorithm remains a splendid way to listen to two channel music recordings.

I could never justify to myself dipping into the bank account to replace the Meridian.  But if an SP-3 were somehow to appear on Christmas morning, I think I could force myself to graciously and gratefully accept it. Alas, this ain't gonna' happen.  Good thing that the Meridian still sounds good, because it's probably going to be around for quite a while longer.

If we all could learn to live together on this earth with love and respect for each other (despite our differences), that would be the best gift of all.

I wish peace and prosperity to all (including Bryston, a truly fine company) in the coming new year.

I can only wish…

A years supply of black hair dye (Clairol L’Image # 880), I like this one the best because it brings out the true paleness of my skin. A case of “Parade Gloss” black shoe polish for my New Rock Reactor and Demonia boots. Some new skeleton decorations for our Christmas Tree - please, not the “tacky ones.” A new ankh with a nice silver chain or perhaps some Steampunk jewellery. Large vacuum tubes that I can stare at for hours on end while I contemplate life or some really neat looking, 100 year-old-plus piece of obscure technology. Failing this, I would even settle for a pair of Bose speakers for my Sony amplifier *sigh* if only I could be so lucky.

A gift certificate for Value Village, aside from Value Village having an awesome selection of vintage, black trench coats, I also require these because I spent all of my clothes money for the next 37 years on my audio gear - Shakes fist towards Peterborough and screams “Darn you Bryston,” umm... not really. I am talking about the screaming/fist thing here. Have I mentioned new hubcaps for my ‘99 Corolla - I only require 3 as I found one that fits when I was out collecting bottles the other day. Any dioramas which depict demons or “mainstream-cheerfully-bubbly-pop-signers” getting grotesquely slaughtered or a close but reasonable facsimile.

Any book(s) on multiple personality disorders. An Edward Scissorhands or Bride of Frankenstein doll, the soft ones please as the hard plastic ones have a nasty habit of poking you in the eye while you are sleeping and waking you up in the middle of the night- oh, be still my beating heart.

As for something totally off the a wall, a new iPod would also be most welcome.

Hi all.
I am not sure if Santa Claus can make a detour to Vietnam, but if he can, I would sure like to get  some power tools and if it's not too much to ask, maybe some Black & Decker or Craftsman.
Santa Clauss can use the front door since we don't have a fire place with a chimeney.

It's Ho-Ho-Ho. That thing is useless in close quarters. It's pretty much like trying to quickly aim a sledgehammer with a very long handle. By the time you can get it pointing at something, you're shot 40 times and gased and naded as a bonus.

Forgot to mention a new calculator and calculus text book. (hint, hint…)

Man oh man, are you serious?

I've taught countless sections of calculus in my time (college and university level).  I used to tell my students that calculus is the doorway to higher mathematics.  It is without question one of the most subtle and beautiful, yet useful, creations (or maybe discoveries - there's a continuing philosophical debate about this) of the human mind.

Sorry to sidetrack this thread, but the mention of calculus just got me all excited.

Hope you find a super good calc text under the Christmas tree.

You do know Rocky Horror is now out on Blu Ray, don't you?  Ah, those were the days.

Personally, I'd just like a nice quiet, relaxing day.

Ok, an Aston Martin Vantage would be nice.  Don't even need a new V12, a gently pre
owned V8 would be just fine!  (much less expensive)

Magnum Dynalab MD109
Summary:Gentelmen, the Mighty MD 109 is not just a tuner it is a musiucal reproduction device that will bring the artists into your home every time you turn your system on. I enjoy Jazz music in particular at night (live performances especially), it is almost impossible to describe that a radio broadcast has this much definition and liveness in it.The MAGIC is incredable. I own a few high end tuners currently and the new MD 109 puts them to shame. The tonal beauty of this tuner is as good as my clearaudio master reference table, very three dimenssional sound fidelity that one can't describe in words. Transparency and the immense sound stage that go beyound the boundries of my large sound room, like sitting in the front row and the stage is about 40feet wide and 40 feet deep. Instruments sound like they are being played in front of you with so much body and presence that is scary, it gives me the creeps at times and it allows the listener to relax to the point like you are in a different dimension. Female vocals are alive and present that will almost make you cry every time You hear Patricia Barber Shirley Horn Dianne Reeves Diana Krall. The bass is fast, very articulate and dynamic like a good cd but its analog sounding and smooth like vinyl but no background noise to deal with just choose one of your favourate 40 presets. The startling performance of this Monster tuner has given me no choice but to make it my number one source in my system. The build quality and the finish of the tuner are excellent including the new remote system that allows you to use the presets or direct entry of the station. Pulling power is very good with the ST 2 antenna just sitting in the room corner. The remote unit is all quality and feels solid in your hand. Front display is very visible and it dims automatically after few seconds. The front face plate looks rich and beautifully finished like fine instrumentation should be at this level. I have owned the MD 108 in the past, selling the Marantz 10 B (MD 109 sounds more realistic and much quieter) as this new tuner from Magnum Dynalab takes FM Broadcasts to a new level of performance. Its like having live performers entertain you every night and You choose what piece of music they play for You without going to the concerts. Your sound room becomes a live stage every night!!! Short warm up time sounds good after five minutes of playing it keeps getting better and better as the night progresses. The only tuners that can battle or barely keep up with this beast are the MD 108 and the Marantz 10B and they loose every time they meet on my audio rack. Its like having a library of world music at your fingertips with the magical analog presence . Every audiophile should have a listen for themselves how this tuner presents the music to you, to my ears its flawless gentelmen.

Strengths:
Very musical
Super Transparent
Reveals Micro dynamics of the music
Dissapears in my sound room
Super quiet both balanced or single ended operation
Looks like a true reference device in any room
Good value (because you wont be going to live performances any more )
THE BEST FM TUNER IN THE WORLD period
Sound is great out of the box but about 200 hours for full potential

Weaknesses:
Yes there is one , your friends will want to camp out in your sound room.
seriously none
the cost is a bit high but not when you consider how much use You will get out of this piece!!! I haven't purchased a single cd or record after the MD 109 because the music is free in the air you just need a device to catch it with.

Robert
