Music From The Source- Cecil McBee Sextet (Inner City).  Recorded live at Sweet Basil in 1977 with Chico Freeman amongst others.  I had put a check mark by the track "Agnez" (there isn't but three on the album) and in no time I understood why*.  You would, too, if you can lay your hands on a copy.  This is the way it was in the late sixties and seventies for the avant garde young turks.  Cecil McBee, btw, is keeping company with Richard Davis as one of the most marvelous instrumentalists on bass.  And he penned Agnez for Freeman.  Whoa is me.  It flies!

* liberated this from storage I hate to tell you how long :duh:.  Thank you IKEA.

Thanks for the link, an interesting sample over morning coffee. Sheesh, they want $45 for a used CD, I don't see that happening.

Nice recording.  I've got some Bireli Lagrene CDs and he is amazing.  Is this recording available on vinyl?

Good stuff....as is this one...

Thanks Chris for another great tip. Will have to add at least a couple of these to the library (on sampling I think I like Cab2 the most on first listen). This crosses with your other Tony MacAlpine recommendation, and adds Mr. Auger to the mix, which almost always makes for a winner in my book.

Man, I don't know how that wound up on Muse (a very good label IME) but, Wolfsama, buy that sonofabitch at once!  If you other guys like vocalists who are "bird" like in their delivery and pure as, well, molten silver, and bass players who are extraordinarily gifted, you'll have a piece of heaven.  This is pure creativity of the highest order.  Harvie Swartz, who is not well known (he was in Double Image and I have septet recording under his name) is in my elite group of bassists with Richard Davis and Cecil McBee and a way beautiful improvisor.  Wait til you hear him on Let's Face The Music and Dance which I've always thought of as a kinda square song.  Not here, at all.  This is an exceptional recording of an exceptional art form (sound, too) and some of you can't help but know it.  Just listen twice if you doubt me.  Boy, do they look square or what on that cover.

An all-too-brief musical association between Nancy King and Glen Moore, two denizens of the Pacific Northwest. Moore is an exceedingly talented string bassist and pianist, who seems way too serious for Nancy King, a flighty diva of jazz.
