Hi Cactus Bob,

I saw that you posted Concierto tonight....thought I'd share a story:

About 20 years ago I took a taxi home from JFK in NYC and got stuck in traffic with a Russian cab driver. Somehow the conversation turned to tube amplifiers (he built his own, as did my father), which eventually led to a discussion about music. As a driver he would routinely put in 14-15 hour days for 6 and sometimes 7 days a week (gruelling), but every night, no matter how late he arrived, he would come home and listen to one complete record. He said that it "kept him sane," and helped him to remember about beauty in the world.

Intrigued, I decided to try this routine for myself...as a jazz neophyte (at the time) I asked for recommendations about where to start. His suggestion? Concierto.

It's still one of my favorite albums. Amazing beginning to end. Thanks for sharing!

That's a fantastic story. That album can sweep you away and that is why I play it on Sunday afternoons along with Trane's "Ole" and others especially Bill Evans. Thanks for sharing that with me!

and Welcome to AC!  :thumb:

Thanks for the welcome, CactusBob! It's one small way to thank a man I saw only once for an hour but who still has an impact on my life 20 years later...

As for me tonight, I'm enjoying this amazing Mosaic set...listening to sides 1 & 2...
