Steve Coleman - Sonic Language of Myth: Believing, Learning, Knowing

Steve Coleman has been one of the most adventurous jazz musicians for almost 3 decades.

This one from 1999 is no exception. This sounds just as cutting edge and adventurous today as it did in 1999. So good, it still reveals new pleasures at every listening.

I've been lucky at the record store this week, so the afternoon was spent cleaning, and the evening listening to:

Julie London "Her Name Is Julie" on mono Columbia 6 eye.  What a sultry singer!  Check out "Cry me a River"  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_iMTN1YS7H4

Erroll Garner  "Erroll Garner"  mono Columbia 6 eye.  I really didn't want this, but the record guy said "try it".  Way before his "Misty" fame, the guy was a real jazz pianist.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_-B8Sd5Bfo

and finally Duke at Newport '58, another Columbia 6 eye.  I've got several other copies, but this one was true NM for $5.  I think it's one of his best.

Used to listen to Julie Is Her Name in junior high.  Made me want to grow up and get out into the world.
