Welcome to the New England Audio Revolution (NEAR).
We can be found all across the New England area in Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusets, Connecticut, and even parts of northern New York.
While our primary focus is audio, feel free to post any topic and enjoy your stay.

Hiya George and all of the NEARer's,
Congratulations on your new found home from all the GASsers down St Louis way :thumb:

Great to see the page finally open. Once I get some pictures of my system I will post them.
Cheers,
John

Are you guys accepting new members ? I am in Manchester NH. Don't know of any others in the state, but I would be willing to travel around NE. Some of the kit on here seems a bit esoteric compared to my old flat earth system which is Linn LP12 Lingo/Naim ARO/Ortofon Kontrapunkt B/Linn Linto Phono Preamp/Naim 102/Hi-Cap/250-2/Quad ESL 57's.
Currently though, I am using my stock Squeezebox 2 with Bolder modified Elpac power supply into Benchmark DAC-1 into my Naim NAP 250-2 power amp and the Quads. The 57's were rebuilt a couple years ago by Wayne Piquet in Florida. Regardless of the system we are all interested in music and I guess that is all that matters.

Colin,
Welcome!!
We are brand new and absolutely accepting members.
We will be putting together some gatherings over the next few weeks and can hopefully have a monthly meeting like some of the other regional circles do.

Nice to see a new "Audio Revolution" taking place in the North....

Brookline NH is here!
Just stumbled across this section of the circle. Cool!
I have a big family (dado7 now actually) and work pretty flaky hours for a gubmint contractor (who used to make lots of tubes) so my physical availability is limited, but that's what a cyber-hood is for right? Maybe I'll spot some of ya at Art's Attic or the MIT swap.

Goffstown in the house fellas'!
My amplifier just got finished last weekend, it was supposed to be 6-channels of amplification with two being of more power for two dual 8" subwoofer cabinets. That idea did not work out so well so I now have a 12-channel amplifier ready for action. This coupled with a DIY volume control with my Behringer SRC, DEQ, and DCX combination should work well.
I have a variety of 2-ways to work with the dual 8" subwoofer cabinets and I have a couple of B&C 12" subwoofers waiting for cabinets to call home. Lastly, I have a modified version of the 1801b 2-way speaker with the Seas W18EX and a horn-loaded Hiquphon OW4. The passive crossover was designed by none other than, Dennis Murphy.
This is going to be so much fun!!
-
For my first post, I'll just check in from Needham, MA. The only other audiophile I could hang with now lives in California, so my wife now gets to hear all my unsolicited audio talk.

I am in Newton Upper Falls

NEAR seems a little slow. Almost like showing up at a party after the cops.
-
slow? I have no idea what you are talking about? Anyway I have been getting into the DIY thing more and more. Anyone "near" here building anything interesting? I am working on a pair of Zv9 monoblocks.
-
Slow. You know...were there any new threads or replies in January? Anyway, my only leap into DIY was with the Bottlehead Foreplay. It sounded fine as long as you could ignore the HUMMMMMM. I couldn't, but it even though I'm not using that preamp I still think it was a valuable lesson. I'm not inspired to DIY anything right now, but that probably won't stop me from buying a new butane-powered soldering iron or somenthing at the you-do-it electronics President's Day sale tomorrow.
-
thats got to be my favorite store! Real dangerous being right around the corner. I also built a foreplayIII and it hums like a bastard but like you said a good learning experince.
-
NEAR seems a little slow. Almost like showing up at a party after the cops.
Nice! Mirrors my thoughts to a "T".
Best,
Paul :green:

Well does anybody want to do something to change that? aa
I can host something in April or May depending on my work schedule and travel.
George
-
Personally, I don't have much of a place that would accommodate more than a couple people, but if you are willing to host something I'd be glad to throw in my support.
-
test :D
-
I had grand plans of hosting a GTG in the near future, but with travel, work, in-laws coming soon, kiddos back to school, birtdhays, weddings... I still have cds in their wrappers... you know the drill. I haven't abandoned audiocircle, but geez, I'd like to at least try for something before snowfall.
-
Hello,
I have been lurking around Audio Circle for a while, but haven't posted much. That should be changing soon, now that I am not as busy as before.
I live in CT, so I should fit right in to a New England Audio Group, geographically speaking. :D
I will stop back and check in as often as possible.
-
Welcome chuckworkb. Our group is very quiet. Zybar kindly arranged a get-together this summer, and we had a great time. Another get-together would be fun. My home is rather small, but I could take the furniture out of my living room, which could be used for a listening room, and maybe we will get something going after the holidays.
-
Happy holiday, every body.
ThanksGiving. Free McIntoch

Hi there. I live in Newton also.

Newton, too.

Anybody there? I'm in coastal NH and working on a large listening space in my barn which I'd love to use for listening sessions in the future. Unheated and no AC for now, but hey, it's just a barn... Looking for audiophiles/phools like me to get together for just that - especially of the DIY persuasion. What's going on with NEAR? Others?
Carl
-
Hey Phoca. We are here somewhere. Just PM those that post here. Welcome to NEAR.
-
Cool. Welcome. if you have ever thoughtfully considered the acoustical properties of hay, you might be an audiophile (to be read with a Jeff foxworthy drawl). Heck yeah I'd be up for hearing a barn system sometime.
-
Now's the time for a barn get-together! Not too hot and not too cool. :thumb:
-
Thanks all. Wish it were finished. I got sidetracked by installing driveway pavers... But I'm also working on not one but 6 amp projects and two speaker sets. At least I should have something to listen to when I'm done.
-
Give us some pics of your projects. We'd love to see.
-
I know if I had a barn I would build some monster horns!
-
Well, at last some project pictures as you requested:
The driveway with the barn just visible in the back. It's now nearly done. Oh...probably not what you meant
Here are some amp photos:

It's pretty dead in here. Care to liven it up?
-
I'm all ears  Ronm1 and others, I'll let this list know if/when my barn is finished and can be used for listening. But I may need input on room treatments.

New Guy here! Moved to Maine (Yarmouth area) about 5 months ago from Hawaii and im starting to get the audio bug again. I had to sell off my speakers and custom subwoofers I built when I left Hawaii but managed to keep most of my electronics and a set of bookshelf speakers. Do we get any trade shows around here? Boston area maybe?
-
No shows that I am aware of in Boston. Welcome to the slowest circle
on AC!
-
Yes... Welcome! We may be slow but we know how to shake up the airwaves (from Gloucester here).
-
We're not slow, we're taciturn.

We can have a G2G @ my new loft in Watertown. I have a couple of AVA preamps, an EE Avant preamp, and EE DAC, a battery-operated Hi-Face and Audox USB power supply, an AVA UltraValve, Salk HT2-TL, and (4) Jeff Bagby-designed subs with 15" drivers and (2) 15" passive radiators in 4.9 c.f. (ID) cabinets, an AVA U70 driving a $59.00 COSTCO rock speaker (but it is stereo) on the patio, a Komoda grill, a pellet smoker, a Samsung 55" LED (with a cheap Pioneer 1021/Energy 7.1 system for the kids), and a 8.5' slate pool table (don't even think about touching my McDermott cue), and a home exercise area for those obcessively-ambitious folks. For the really
foolish courageous, I will take you for a ride in my car; my 82 year old mother says 4th gear is as close as she will ever get to being an astronaut. PM if interested or post and someone PM me. George, additionally, et al, I believe, have my mobile number. Just be fun to see you guys.

Quick question: Does Westchester count?
My grillfiend's twin sister lives in Danbury and we drive there often, which would make me a definite honorary member of this club. However, I've just moved from New York City to White Plains to live with said grillfiend and wondered whether this swank hangout was also inclusive of people like myself who now live in Westchester.
-
Not much going on here I guess. I"m in Berlin, CT. Selling off three full systems with Onix, NAD, ProAc, Krell, MIT etc...in order to finally get a new system. I already have a beautiful Ayre AX7e integrated to start and will go with Vandy Treo's. Would love to talk with other audiophiles locally.

HELLO "NEAR" from north/central Vermont.
Almost embarrassed to post something here after reading what a few of you have for systems. Some of the pieces some of you have I've never heard of, a lot of the rest is just something I dream about. But as I am a victim of "upgradeitis", who knows what's to come? Slowly doing some upgrades and educating myself as I do it (enjoying the attempt to educate part, possible to spend too much time on this?). Anyhow, just wanted to say "hi" and if there are any beer drinkers reading this, I live 6-8 miles from where the #1 brewery in the world is - Hill Farmstead (http://Hill Farmstead), stop by after you pick up a growler. (And I work about 1/2 mile from where The Alchemist makes "Heady Topper".)
My work in progress (currently) is:
Angstrom speakers all around (Obbligatos in front) except using a Paradigm sub not the Angstrom
(I took a (big) chance and bought these used & unheard, VERY glad I took that chance.)
Anthem MRX710 AVR
Anthem MCA 5 amp
Denon DCD-1520, a cd player 30+ years old and going strong
Denon DP-61F tt
(forget what the cartridge is as haven't used it in a few years)
Monster HTS 5000
ClearDay Double Shotgun speaker cables
(just hooked up yesterday and :thumb: !!!!)
mish mash of ICs
Have a good one'
Steve
PS/ just finished listening to Kansas and cranking up some Bob James next.
-
Wish there were more folks here. Upgraded to the new Ayre AX5/20s and about to pull the trigger on Vandersteen Quatro's. If anyone wants to buy my Treo's at a great value just let me know as I'll need to sell them.
-
I am in the Providence area-just joined the forum. Great place!
I have been running Apogee Slant 8's and Centaur Majors for years and now have Usher 8571's I rotate in/out. System includes 2010 Mac Mini server, Bel Canto DAC3, Bel Canto Async USB Converter, Conrad Johnson CT5 Pre, LP140 Monos. Vinyl: Michell Gyrodec SE, SME309, ASR Basis Exclusive pre, Shelter 501. Nordost cables. Love this hobby!

I'm in the Bangor Me. area. 60 miles north in Medway Me. I recently purchased a pair of Spatial M3 Triode
Masters. They replaced a pair of Vandersteen 3A Signatures. The problem is I no longer have the
shipping cartons. If someone is interested in coming up here to purchase them I will offer them at a great
price. $800.00. You will be able to hear them before you buy them. That also includes the sound anchors.
While I have your attention I would also like to sell my Audio by VanAlstine 600 R amp $1850.00
Audeze LCD2 Rev 1 headphone,s $500.00
The last 2 items I can ship.
-
HI Coldfogey,
I spent a few years in E. Eddington while in high school. You could be Coldandsnowyfogey! During black fly season of course the name could be unprintable as well.:) If you are an outdoors kind of guy, there is much to do and like about your location. Have you listed your gear for sale in the Marketplace here on AC? Those look like nice prices for some very nice gear. GLWS. What are you driving the Spatial M3 Turbos with?
Best Regards,
Blu99Zoomer

Hi Bluezoomer
I am using a VINNIE ROSSI LIO integrated Amp with the 25 watt MOSFET. I switch in the AVA 600R on occasion. I used this site because I
cannot ship the speakers with no cartons. The last two items were an after thought. They will go on the circle in due time if no one on this site
interested. Thank you for your interest.
Coldfogey
-
Coldfogey,
I have heard that the LIO pairs well with Spatial Audio speakers. Congratulations. Happy listening.
Who wouldn't want to drive up to your neck of the woods?! Listen, Maine keeps the roads in better winter driving condition than most states in New England from my own memory. A stop in Bangor to say hi to old Paul if he is still standing by the fairgrounds, and before you know it, you are in Medway. Stop on the way back for some skiing at Sugarloaf or Sunday River, lobster on the coast somewhere, dinner in Portland. Sounds like a great weekend getaway!
Best,
Blu

Greetings:
Does anyone know of a good tech in the Boston/south shore area who can work on speakers?
Thanx
-
Does Goodwin have anyone? I'm sure they know someone. May be worth a call.
-
A friend had several speakers repaired by DHS in Feeding Hills Ma to great results.
-
I live in the Portland, Maine area.
I got back into audio after purchasing Sennheiser HD 600 headphones and a Schiit Bitfrost Multibit DAC and Valhalla 2 headphone amp, in early 2016. I've since upgraded to a pretty nice 2-channel system with Salk speakers, a bunch of Schiit components and I ordered a new Technics turntable the other day.
-
Hi all Tom here from Boston. Recently started to get back into 2 channel audio have a decent record collection 60’s- 90’s several different genres. Recently picked up a Dynaco st150 that has been modded by mr Van Alstine himself back in 82 I believe. Anyway hooked on the Boston Audio sound have and had KLH,ADS,Advent. Cambridge audio. I’m in the middle of refurbishing a rarely seen pair of ADS BC8’s studio monitors. Anyway thanks for letting me in the club.

Quite a ways north of there, but Holt Hill Audio is in Lawrence, Brian is a pretty cool dude and does good work.

Hi All, greetings from VT,
I'm on the lofi of the hifi spectrum. Slowly upgrading some of my kit as I've been archiving all the various media in the house to enable streaming on our LAN. Check out jellyfin as a FLAC capable HTML5 streaming software if this sounds interesting to ya.
Our main HT setup is a Yamaha receiver with Advent Legacy II front speakers with budget Yamaha center and rears. So sub is next up.
Cheers!

Thank you for setting up this forum. North Shore settled and avid vinyl/tube fan. Still using my Quad mono set up and have expanded into modern tube equipment from Shindo, EAR, Quad. Still running Thorens TD124's with a variety of MC cartridges. Speakers from Harbeth, KEF and Devore. Pandemic created a monster and the vinyl has become unmanageable. Looking forward to exchanging ideas on vintage and modern, and going to dabble into digital/streaming soon. It's all about the music.
