Title: Kraemer Designs D~400 Hypex NC400 Mono Amp Build
Post by: AluminatiSound on 8 Apr 2013, 02:46 pm
I will be starting these in the next month or so. The PS board and amp module will be bolted upside down in the case, the bottom will have a slotted and vented cover.

The over all size of the case will be 3" by 8" by 12". One solid chunk of aluminum and a 1/4" thick bottom cover will make up the case.

The name "KD~D400" stands for "Kraemer Designs~ Digital 400"

The cost is way too high to sell them here.

Added slots on bottom cover for venting. Also added a hole pattern on top for more venting.

And what are the costs?

I am charging $500 a case. 5 have been claimed. I do not want to turn this into a huge run but will consider making a few more sets.

They will take 4 hours to make a piece.

Thanks Bruce!!

I ripped apart my TT~2 today and put a nice finish on it at the shop. It's all bubble wrapped up ready to be anodized now. Next is the Aluminati speakers, man 14 pieces to make pretty  :? it's going to take a day or two staying after work to get them ready to go.

Mods you can delete this thread, as i will not update it. Getting a lot more interest at the Emo Lounge and the folks im making cases for are getting involved over there.

Might post finished pictures in the "show us you ncore thread"

I think you're going to find in the end that your cooling vents were a bit overkill.. These aren't that kind of amp  :green: But whatever the design looks great.

They we're never meant to be cooling fins, It's just part of the design.

I could just slap this thing together and call it a day but it would just look plain like 99% of the amps out there

If it doesn't look good, I don't want anything to do with it  8)

I'm not buying any audio at the moment but part of me wants to hit you up this summer and see if you can't do something for my LDR chassis. It's a sleeper, but it sure deserves to look a bit nicer.

Signal ground or safety earth?

Both. After looking at the data sheet and a few sets of user pics, I think i have it.

IEC inlet ground to chassis, nAmpon to chassis, Audio signal shielding and ground to chassis.

Right?

The outside design of the case is 100% appearance and not to help with anything but i would think it would help vent or act as a heatsink.

Oh boy did i get a couple of surprises when i got home :)

Got all the goodies from PartsExpress.

Also got a package from Hypex. Shipped Friday and got it today!!! Pretty fast i would say. Shipping wasn't bad either, like $38. No import taxes, which was nice.

Laid it out on a 8x11 piece of paper. Not far off from my 8x12 case. Fits nice :)

Re drew the model.

The front logo has changed. Which i like it better now.

Got rid of the thru holes and made them blind holes (not thru).

Drew some feet and added counterbores to secure the bottom plate and feet.

Made a recess on the back for all the connectors.

(http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/n591/mkbenchmark/IMG_1672_zps20f0366e.jpg) (http://s1141.photobucket.com/user/mkbenchmark/media/IMG_1672_zps20f0366e.jpg.html)

I'm liking the design. Just a little more to draw.

(http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/n591/mkbenchmark/IMG_1673_zps1cbff8d8.jpg) (http://s1141.photobucket.com/user/mkbenchmark/media/IMG_1673_zps1cbff8d8.jpg.html)

Tomorrow i will start cutting the bottom cover. After that will be the feet. I want to do these first to get them out of the way. Finally i'll make the cases.

I have some solid hook-up wire from BulkWire coming to me. Black, red and green colored.

Today i made the covers, bottom covers that is and they ran great.

I used numerous tools but these are 2 of them. 1/4" and 3/16" endmills. Not mill bits, routers or metal cutters, endmills!!! People get that wrong all the time but hey i am a machinist.

(http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/n591/mkbenchmark/IMG_1682_zps7cccec65.jpg) (http://s1141.photobucket.com/user/mkbenchmark/media/IMG_1682_zps7cccec65.jpg.html)

Here is my program with all the tool path lines shown.

(http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/n591/mkbenchmark/IMG_1684_zps6aa885ec.jpg) (http://s1141.photobucket.com/user/mkbenchmark/media/IMG_1684_zps6aa885ec.jpg.html)

Before i started i used a orbital sander and gave one side a nice consistent finish.

(http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/n591/mkbenchmark/IMG_1686_zpsee730d4b.jpg) (http://s1141.photobucket.com/user/mkbenchmark/media/IMG_1686_zpsee730d4b.jpg.html)

To make these parts, i used a fixture plate to secure them down.

(http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/n591/mkbenchmark/IMG_1683_zps728a79c6.jpg) (http://s1141.photobucket.com/user/mkbenchmark/media/IMG_1683_zps728a79c6.jpg.html)

Used kant twist clamps first. Drilled and counterbored holes for 6-32 SHCS's then removed the clamps and the rest of the program ran.

(http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/n591/mkbenchmark/IMG_1687_zps9867ff9a.jpg) (http://s1141.photobucket.com/user/mkbenchmark/media/IMG_1687_zps9867ff9a.jpg.html)

High pressure coolant to help maximize tool life and to flush chips.

I am excited to wire up a pair but still have a bunch of things to make but it'll be a fun journey :)

Today i requested a vector file of the "N-Core" logo from Hypex. It will be machined into the back where the connectors go. It'll look bad ass :)

The LEDs on the AMP module will shine thru the bottom of the case.

It's easy to tell if an amp is on...... If there is no sound, it's off

Got the feet done tonight. I made 3 at a time, then cut them apart with a bandsaw. After cutting them apart i ran one at a time to get them to thickness. Made some white ones aswell, i'll give it a try on my pair. 1/2" tall and 5/8" in diameter.

I started drawing the interior of the case today. Should have it finished but will for sure design the 3 insulating standoffs and conductive standoff for the PSU.

The insulating standoffs will be made out of white delrin, which is a great dielectric.

You are the metal expert, but I would bet that amp is clear coated to prevent oxidation.  It's a really nice amplifier and is very well designed (and expensive).   I also love the way it looks.  That copper looks very cool and the dial on the front is also very attractive, IMO.

I like the lighted watt meter but not at the angle it is at.  I think a flush mounted watt meter would be real cool.

These are very large and are probably placed on the floor.  The slanted dial makes it possible to see the face without laying on the ground.  It looks pretty cool to me.

Today i drew the rest of the model (99% there :) ) and made the delrin standoffs for the PSU.

So the PSU needs 4 standoffs, one that is conductive (grounded) and 3 that are insulating or non conductive. I made these to the 10mm tall spec from the data sheet. The case has the one conductive standoff machined into it. It will be masked during anodizing so it's raw aluminum, anodizing is non conductive. The (3) delrin standoffs bolt into the case and the PSU bolts to these.

Raw material.

Onto the interior of the case. I made wire ways for everything. The standoff towards the back of the case (by the connectors) is a ground pad, for signal, nAMPON and earth. I removed the front engraving for the moment but it will be there when machined.

Today i started the cases.

First i redesigned the front logo. I like it the best by far. Most of my designs come to me in my dreams, must have had good dreams last night  :D The yellow highlighted area will be machined off after anodizing.

(http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/n591/mkbenchmark/IMG_1722_zps961266b0.jpg) (http://s1141.photobucket.com/user/mkbenchmark/media/IMG_1722_zps961266b0.jpg.html)

I used these five tools to do the first operation of the cases.

(http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/n591/mkbenchmark/IMG_1723_zps6fed0b39.jpg) (http://s1141.photobucket.com/user/mkbenchmark/media/IMG_1723_zps6fed0b39.jpg.html)

Holders to secure the tools.

(http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/n591/mkbenchmark/IMG_1728_zps122f5cad.jpg) (http://s1141.photobucket.com/user/mkbenchmark/media/IMG_1728_zps122f5cad.jpg.html)

My CAM program. I used the geometry to too lpath.

(http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/n591/mkbenchmark/IMG_1725_zps7b09015d.jpg) (http://s1141.photobucket.com/user/mkbenchmark/media/IMG_1725_zps7b09015d.jpg.html)

Tool path lines, where the tool cut.

(http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/n591/mkbenchmark/IMG_1726_zpsdd45d031.jpg) (http://s1141.photobucket.com/user/mkbenchmark/media/IMG_1726_zpsdd45d031.jpg.html)

Started off with the raw block.

(http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/n591/mkbenchmark/IMG_1724_zpsca4082db.jpg) (http://s1141.photobucket.com/user/mkbenchmark/media/IMG_1724_zpsca4082db.jpg.html)

The block is .02" over 3.000", so i took .01" off this side and will do the same on the bottom.

(http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/n591/mkbenchmark/IMG_1729_zps3713eccb.jpg) (http://s1141.photobucket.com/user/mkbenchmark/media/IMG_1729_zps3713eccb.jpg.html)

I cut the perimeter down 1 1/4" but will cut the rest on the next operations.

(http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/n591/mkbenchmark/IMG_1730_zpsd74e6971.jpg) (http://s1141.photobucket.com/user/mkbenchmark/media/IMG_1730_zpsd74e6971.jpg.html)

Put the steps in.

(http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/n591/mkbenchmark/IMG_1731_zpsf894b65b.jpg) (http://s1141.photobucket.com/user/mkbenchmark/media/IMG_1731_zpsf894b65b.jpg.html)

Roughed out the surface features.

(http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/n591/mkbenchmark/IMG_1732_zps83998789.jpg) (http://s1141.photobucket.com/user/mkbenchmark/media/IMG_1732_zps83998789.jpg.html)

Put the 3/8" spot faces in.

(http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/n591/mkbenchmark/IMG_1733_zps834539ff.jpg) (http://s1141.photobucket.com/user/mkbenchmark/media/IMG_1733_zps834539ff.jpg.html)

Machined the 1/8" and 1/16" chamfers on.

(http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/n591/mkbenchmark/IMG_1734_zps7624c39b.jpg) (http://s1141.photobucket.com/user/mkbenchmark/media/IMG_1734_zps7624c39b.jpg.html)

Put .03" chamfers on the 3/8" spot faces.

Got two done, i will finish the rest tomorrow morning. ON MY DAY OFF!!

A video i made of the surfacing :)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7m30Yix_WQ (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7m30Yix_WQ)

The raw blocks weigh 29.5lbs and after this operation they went down to 27.5lbs.

Took 49 minutes and 12 seconds to cut one part.

Matt

I have turned away numerous people saying i would not make anymore cases but there is a good chance i can (work schedule) and will make more. The cost will be higher than the $500 mark per case as i have added more to the design and platting may be up there for a set of cases.

PM me and we can talk :)

Changed the slot design so they're at an angle, which looks cooler and makes the slots longer because of the angle they're at.

I wil be returning the standard connectors i purchased because i ordered nicer connectors from Parts Conn. Got a Cardas XLR, WBT posts and a Furutech IEC.

What's nice is i don't have to adjust my model for these, they are all the same size as the standard connectors.

I wil be returning the standard connectors i purchased because i ordered nicer connectors from Parts Conn. Got a Cardas XLR, WBT posts and a Furutech IEC.

Ummh... Why? Do they really look that much better?

I think it's a good choice. You wouldn't want a $500 blinged out case to have cheapo connectors. Unless you were shooting for irony.

The people I'm making cases, asked for them. The extra cost was added to the case total.

I'm not saying one way or another if they sound better, but the Cardas, Furutech and WBT parts generally have higher copper content in the brass as well as higher quality gold plating compared to typical Chinese budget hardware.

As Rclark pointed out, the hardware choice is more in line with an exotic custom HQ CNC machined enclosure, and should the owners want to sell them in the future, will only help make a quick sale at the highest possible price.

I just talked with my boss and he is all in for another set of cases. Sounds stupid but i have to ask him, if these get in the way of current work load, we can't do em.

But we are getting into the slow months. So plenty of time to make some cases.

They would take longer and i've never liked the look of spikes.

I made these for my first table (TT~1) and eventually make fixed round feet for it.

I am somewhat unfamiliar with delrin for feet, is this something that is commonly used? i always figured that delrin was a hardish plastic of sorts.

I use it a lot. Not many people use it as feet. A medium plastic hardness. Nylon is harder.

Not that it's necessarily that important here, but the purpose of the feet is to minimize or dampen vibrations.. You don't have something rubber or the like to attach to those? That's what I thought you were doing.

The delrin feet i made will be just fine :)

no need for arguments here, Kraemer is always open to suggestions and has been great to talk to!

I have never really seen delrin feet before for audio stuff, that is why i asked, if there are any real problems with delrin in this application, i'm sure it would be appreciated if someone pointed it out. Mainly because i am getting a set from Kraemer, and would love for anything to get banged out before hand.

The only thing i can see happening is the amp might slide around with delrin feet but the case will weigh enough. Even so, i will change it out to rubber or add rubber pads to the bottom of the delrin feet if need be.

Krell uses Delrin feet. From the KSA 150/250 owner's manual:

"The feet on the KSA-150 or KSA-250 can be used three different ways. They are made from machined Delrin and are supplied with separate rubber bottoms and mounting screws. The rubber bottom can be screwed into the Delrin for the protection of fragile surfaces such as hardwood floors or furniture. For use on rugs or carpeting, using the feet without the rubber bottoms is recommended. You may purchase, from your authorized dealer, a set of Acoustic Mass Dampers (AMDs). AMDs are custom-machined stainless steel feet fitted with a threaded insert and a washer made from acoustically absorbent material. When threaded into the Delrin feet, the AMS will decouple the amplifier from vibrations present on the surface where the unit is installed."

Next will be the back. I'll make all the holes for the connectors, also engrave "NCORE". I had planned on doing a very crazy logo back there but have decided to scale it way back, because of machine time and it is my case, the Ncore's are just inside. Lastly the bottom will be hallowed out and testing will begin :)

Matt,

I’ll join the chorus and say this is some very nice work. I want to especially compliment you on your styling. In this project and the repackaging of your Emotiva gear you have developed a design language that is bold and visually arresting. CNC cased hi-fi gear is quite the thing these days and you are avoiding the all too common follow the leader syndrome with too many designs looking like Jeff Roland Design Group or Ayre Acoustics Inc..

From design to process now I have a couple of questions. You may want to answer these now or just tell me “wait and see”.

Why did you complete the top, sides, and ends first and save “hogging out the bottom” until the end? To this wannabe machinist it seems you have to clamp the cases in your mill using already finished surfaces.

How do you intend to de-burr and prep the metal for finishing? Much as I love the dramatic angled fin features ending in the wave cuts it seems you could make a career out of de-burring those features and getting the mill marks off prior to anodizing. Can you just bead blast it and off to the plating shop?

Again, kudos for your design chops and craftsmanship.

Hi Norman,

I've ran this part (case) just like i would anything else i do here. You need to establish good edges and parallel/perpendicular sides. This sets you up for the best outcome. If we started with the bottom first, it would make it hard to do the sides, top and bottom, since i would need very tall vice jaws to securely hold onto the part (case).

You never want to get cornered being a machinist. The first operation is the most critical. Sometimes i sit for an hour just turning the solid model on my computer screen, which side should i do first.

I will be using 3m scotch brite pads. They are the aggressive type ones. Takes all the mill lines and machining marks off. It'll look very consistent after using these pads.

Tonight i will be starting (hopefully finishing) the last operation, which is the bottom.

Today i started the bottom. There was a lot to program and while machining i made a few changes because of clearance issues. Got one done and will finish the rest tomorrow.

Must have typed in the wrong number for the XLR connector because it doesn't go in that smooth but this is an easy fix. The model and program will be updated to allow a bigger hole for future batches. These 7 will just be ran again, it will only take seconds to cut a bigger hole for the XLR.

These cases weighed 29 1/2 pounds as raw stock, they ended up at 11 1/2 pounds after everything. A loss of 18 pounds from machining.

I took some pictures will some of the goodies inside, they are not really installed just a basic mock up.

Other then re machining the XLR connector hole, everything will work great!!

Here is the endmill that did 90% of the machining. A 3/4" 3 flute.

They definitely look cool, but cooling capacity (or, more precisely, heat dispersion capability) depends primarily on surface area and not mass.

All that aluminium will cause it to take much longer for the enclosure to get warm (and will provide better cooling as long as it is heating up), but once it reaches thermal equilibrium, it won't be any more effective at dissipating heat than a similarly sized tin can.

Beautiful work.  These amps run cool and I don't think heat will be an issue.  The cases are well ventilated and you can always add a couple heat sinks to the modules.  Mine have heat sinks but I'm not really sure they are necessary.  I've seen these amps with no vents and they work fine.

Excellent job.  I like the interiors a lot!  I'd like to see a dual mono stereo version.

It's an understandable perception to have, that it's an amp with a lot of power so it must get really hot, right? He's going to find that all the cooling fins, etc are really more for show than they are necessary with these new class d designs. Mine are completely sealed, no vents, and I just spent half an hour pushing the spl's a bit. They are barely warm to the touch. Just a mild warmth to my cases, and not even uniform, just near the module. Think the efficiency is going to surprise him.

But again, it all looks cool!

you do have 11.5 lbs of aluminum, i would imagine that it would take some long time for it to even get warm, most cases out there probably get warm really fast!

Well, with the ncores it is the opposite. They don't dissipate much heat at full power, but they do dissipate a fair bit (in proportion) when idling, so long-term thermal balance is more important than short-term heat absorption  capability. In any case, it shouldn't be an issue unless you put several of them in a tight box.

I'm not sure you read my post. I said these amps do not run hot and that the case had sufficient ventilation.  Unvented cases can dissipate heat but these thick aluminum cases would not do that well enough for an amp that runs hot, say Class A.  They would probably work fine fir these amps but the vents look pretty cool.  I like them.

The guy who assembled my amp attached little adhesive heat sinks directly on the modules, the kind they use on computers.  I'm not sure they are necessary but they can't hurt.

The cases in this thread should work great and they look pretty cool.  Nice work.

Yeah. And even idling is jus really mild. Was expecting the opposite! I was ready to cut holes and fins too, till I ran them a while.

I finished the other 6 cases today and bolted the PSU and AMP board into the case to make sure it worked, it did!!! It worked just as i planned it.

I bolt thru the AMP board to secure it to the case, thermal paste will go between the AMP board heatsink and the case.

I machined in one standoff for the PSU board, this is a conductive standoff to provide a ground link to the chassis. Three white delrin standoffs are bolted into the case to provide a non conductive surface.

Matt, clearly you jest about the chips!  When I was 17 I worked in a sheet metal shop as the gopher/janitor.  It was before CNC and I used to help the Class A Machinist by feeding water on the cutting bits to cool them off.  I also swept the floors and saved all of the shavings and chips. Had to separate them between metallic and non in big industrial barrels.

I eventually operated a power brake and a couple of presses, one day I looked around and saw how many operators had missing fingers and moved on!  Nevertheless, I did learn a lot and had great respect for the Class A Mechanics!

Congrats on the very nice cases, they look delicious  :P

One question though. Do you have any plans to shield the umbilical cable that feeds the NC400 from the SMPS power Inlet cable? It appears to be coming in contact with the umbilical cable. It may not matter, but maybe on the next run you may consider hogging out a hole below the channel that the umbilical runs thru for the SMPS power cable and have it pop out somewhere away from it on the other end. Just a thought.

Nice job!

they will act as a huge heat sink

Only until they reach equilibrium, and because of the relatively high idle dissipation of the ncores, equilibrium is relevant (like with class A amps, but unlike class A/B amps).

They do run pretty nicely at almost-textbook 90 degrees to each other, so it is probably not an issue.

Matt,

I agree with others - that build is absolutely insane, gorgeous! I think I like the innards better, because of the 'planning' involved with shielding, cooling and routing the wires.

Kudos! I know the chassis cost a bundle though - I'm sure a pair of them is as much as the amps with power supplies themselves.

You would make Bruno very, very proud!

Best,
Anand.

The lady was watching a movie upstairs. It was called "The Last Song" . Not the best movie, more of a chick flick but it has good sound.

I switched out amps with the D~400's and prayed they did not blow up. A few seconds after i powered them on, i heard a click and the sound came after.

First of all, absolutely no noise, like none. I usually hear a little with all amps but can't hear any with these.

I've only heard them for about an hour now but the sound is very different. Can't make a conclusion yet as i need to spin some records and listen to some digital. I'll run it for long period of time to check temps.

I'll post pictures tomorrow of them in my system.

After running the amps for hours, they are just warm. Not hot at all. My pre amp is hotter then these are.

My budget is tight at the moment but if I was getting one of these (and I wish I was!), I'd just get a clear-coat and not get ano'd.  They look so cool with the raw aluminum finish.  You can see all of the little marks and get a feel for the CNC work that went into these cases.  Cool stuff.

Matt - we've never seen CNC workmanship and creativity like your stuff around here.  Looking forward to your future creations.

Tomorrow my Bel Canto DAC 2.5 is coming. It'll replace my current DAC and pre amp (Emotiva). Soon i will get the Vista Audio phono amp as well to do my table.

Just picturing it now...... A sweet ass case..... Some gold plating on the front  8)

Matt, it is safe to say that this thread has made you famous.  You are great working on metal.  How about wood?  Where do your electronics skills come from?  Do you design your own amp or is it based on somebody's  design.  I am happy that you are making beautiful cases for the
audiophiles here at Audiocircle.

I'm a machinist for a living and i've learned a lot about electronics from my father. As Scotty said, these are easy to assemble.

I've machined wood a few times but it makes a huge mess in my machine.

Almost like what Apple does on the Al uni-body parts, the ones used on their lap top line. But a little more silver or metallic color.

Title: Re: Kraemer Designs D~400 Hypex NC400 Mono Amp Build
Post by: AluminatiSound on 5 Jun 2013, 09:26 pm
This was posted on the Emotiva lounge weeks ago. The XSP-1 and XDA-1 are Emotiva products and the DAC 2.5 is Bel Canto.

So i promised i'd give my impressions on these amps. I used the D~400's with my XSP-1/XDA-1 combo and now with my DAC 2.5. There was a noticeable difference between those but the difference in the D~400's was still there.

I owned the XPA-1's from last October till just a month or so ago, so i had many enjoyable listening sessions and can re call the sound it produced.

To sum up what the XPA-1's sounded like would go something like this, very powerful, never sweats, very natural sound, not up or down but in the middle and finesse. All around good amp but i still believe all Emotiva amps sound exactly the same. I heard no difference between my Mini-X and the XPA-1's. Maybe there was differences but they must have been hard to notice.

The D~400's have changed my perspective on audio, in which amps have their own sound signature. As soon as i plugged in the amps (of course jumping for joy to hear the damn things), i thought to myself, maybe amps do sound different. I heard a clear difference in sound right away. Hey.. Hey.. maybe it's just a placebo effect and i need to adjust. Nope, the difference stayed there.

So what did i hear, hurry Kraemer tell us!!!

I heard highs that were so sharp and clear, mids that melted right into the highs and lows, while commanding their own space, a soundstage that is so wide, it defines stereo separation, imaging that is freaky to say the least and to do all of these things at the same time at very fast speeds while not sweating.

The coolest thing about these amps is that a sound coming from either the L or R speaker can be so well defined and not be smeared with other sounds, very crisp and clean.

So yes, i am glad i made these amps. They have exceeded my expectations and them some.

I will say the difference i heard between the XDA-1 and DAC 2.5 was rolled off highs on the XDA-1. I now have more shimmer and crisp highs with the DAC 2.5.

i would like to shorten cable runs for my speaker cables.
If only we could have speakers terminal in the front panel than the amps could be positioned between the source and speakers which a further into the room (in my case at least).

Could you think of any way to put speakers terminal on the front and still make them look great?

Need an idea from ingenious designer and Kraemer, you certainly is :-)

My friend Brian wanted some unique cases, so here they are. I redid the front and bottom cover, he wanted the top design to flow else were on the case, i think i did that :)

Also just to add another touch, i straight line sanded the cases and covers using a sanding table instead of using scotch brite pads to finish the surface but i did leave the machining marks on the back of the cases. It really takes it up another level but it takes 5 times as long when straight line sanding them.

Hope you like them Brian!!!!

Hi Cab,

We know that everything is set in stone and we would just need to load tools and press start but those cases take 3-4 hours per case to machine and they are mono blocks... So 6-8 hours for a sold pair. It just wraps up a lot of time for us. I (Matt) need sleep  :thumb:

That is very true but we do not like to mark things up or take advantage of peoples money. Just not who we are.

We were selling them for $3,200 shipped for the pair, that was completed ready to play amps. If we get any bites at $3,600 shipped for a pair, we might re consider.

Matt and Jas

Another note Cab, We were advised by Hypex that this really isn't allowed. Kind of in the grey area. We can't sell completed amps to customers using the NC400 module but we had our customers ship the amp kits to us and we assembled them complete. $3,600 would be the final involved cost for the end customer, so they would fund us $1,850 (amp kits $1,750 on customer end + $1,850 to us = $3,600 total cost).

Matt and Jas

why not just sell the cases? No issues with Hypex that way and no further assembly time on your end.

We will give this a go in the next few weeks  :thumb:

A pair cases with connectors and hardware included (since it was machined for specific connectors and hardware) for $1,550 ($1,850-$300 if they were assembled on our end).

Just an FYI for interested buyers, the prices of connectors might have gone up since we last made these, which will increase the price slightly...

We use a Cardas XLR, Furutech IEC and WBT binding posts all ordered from Parts Connexion.

Cab, since you are so insistent on what you want, are you going to buy a pair if they offer them?  Or are you just giving free advice to some industrious guys who don't seem to need it.

I give the Aluminati guys lots if credit. Very cool products for reasonable prices.

Cheers

Jack

They are certainly industrious but that is no guarantee of success....Time will tell....

I give them a lot of credit too. Just hate to see them get discouraged and take their talents elsewhere if the ice in a box doesn't work out. Always a good idea to play to your strengths.

Hi Matt & Jas,

Please keep me posted on these. I will most likely order ANOTHER PAIR in October so the timing might be perfect. The Diablo is VERY tempting too

Hi Matt and Jas,

Your attitude and enthusiasm are outstanding, which is what I think it takes to be successful in business. Your products are unique and very well built to say the least. With that said I want to tell you some advice that an old realistate mogul told me when I was about your age, I'm 52 now. At the time I owned an alarm business which I started when I was 22, "I still do". I told him that I wanted to get out of it because I was planning on getting into realistate instead. He looked at me and said, don't stop doing the alarm business that you already know, just do both. That was the best advice that I have ever gotten in my 30 years in business. My point is, don't limit yourself to one thing. By only selling the Ice amps your limiting your clientele. Many people will have no interest in these amps because they don't like them, even thou your case work in out of this world. I suggest you do custom case work also, charge what you need to and build your ice amps as well.

Anyway, just my .02 cents worth from an old business owner. I wish both of you the best of luck!

Greg

^Hi Greg,

We know exactly what you mean, opening the doors to more possibilities is always better, it caters to more customers and provides more sales at the end of the month.

Right now as we are typing this, the machines are cranking away at making D~400 cases and we should have them done by tomorrow afternoon. Being on two of us here at Aluminati Sound, it can get crazy but we will take on any job as long as we have time to fit it into our tight schedule :)

Best,
Matt and Jas
