Does Single Drivers Include (Sub)Woofers
« on: 10 Sep 2007, 02:47 pm »
  First is terrific to have a single driver forum, thank you!
Second, in the sanctuary of single driver speakers, is there space for the use of (Sub)Woofers, or is this the ultimate heresy?

Zack,

See my last post in the welcome thread.  To my mind this is ok, and I've had systems both with and without subs, and frankly, I wouldn't want to exclude anybody on the basis of whether they use a sub or not -- or even a super tweeter for that matter.

Thanks for jumping in,

Jim

A really good FR is capable of ~7 octaves, so i see no problem with active helper woofers or supertweeters. You just need to keep them out of the 80(100) to 8(12) k range.

Integrating a woofer with a FR can be a challenge thou. One needs to take real care.
