Hi James, did you not discuss a new cheaper remote some time ago? I can not find that discussion or do i just remember it wrong?

Do you have a picture of it? I would need 3 of them, to my SP2, BP26 and a B135 Cubed if it will work with all 3?

The SP2 needs its own remote but everything else is OK.  I think Volume up and down on the new remote should work with the SP2 but I will have to check.

Have you considered a Logitech Harmony remote? I've programmed my Bryston BDP-1 and other audio devices with it. I bought the cheapest one on sale for $40 and it holds connection to 4 devices. Just a suggestion.  :thumb:

I have a Harmony and the original for the SP2.
The SP2 one has stop working now and then and It is a better feeling with original remotes.
I seldom need the remotes, i have the amps directly beside the listening sofa so i can reach them.
The B135 i will have in an other room and need a remote to that one.

That "cheap" remote looks really really nice. Nice job on the design.

If it can control both the bda and bdp without having to press a button in between to switch modes I will pick one to use alongside the br2 :)

Hi,

Not sure - I have only seen the silver so far.

Pricing I think is around $100

Will the remote be available in the online Bryston store or will it need to be purchased from a dealer?  Will it control a BCD3 and B135SST2?  If so, I am looking forward to purchasing it.
Thank you.

Hi

I think from a dealer initially as we do not have the store up and running on the new website yet.

Yes it should control all products except the SP3 and SP4 as I understand it.

My BP25 remote from 1998. Typical Bryston, still works great with my BP26. Just don't drop it on your foot!

James, the new "cheap" remote looks fantastic!  Thanks for bringing this to market.  The $100 price point is very reasonable.  I actually prefer the look of this remote over the BR2.

Will you be able to switch HDMI inputs on the BDA3 with this new remote?
According to the owners manual you can’t do so with the BR2

Hi All, materials for the new remote are rolling in. Looks like we'll have them available in February. A brief FAQ follows:

What does it control?
Basically everything the BR-2 controls. That includes preamps, digital players, CD players, Integrated amps. We will offer a version of it with the SP3 as well.

How much will it cost?
We will include them with some products from the factory, but if you want to buy one separately, it should cost approximately $125 (final pricing not yet settled) in North America

How is it different than the BR-2?
There's not a lot of difference. There is no longer a motion sensitive backlight (or any backlighting) to reduce cost. The enclosure is aluminum, but not milled billet, so don't try to run this one over with your truck. Buttons are silicone instead of metal.

Can it control a BDA-3 fully?
We removed upsampling so there are 10 buttons available, so all 10 inputs can be selected from the remote.

Black or silver?
No, since getting the price down meant massive order quantities, we opted to go with black only.

Too bad about the "just black."  Those of us with less-than-good-eyesight have difficulty with the notations for each button on black - - unless they're printed in stark white.

That was my trouble with the BR-2. I had to memorize which button to press.

also, I do hope the battery will be easier to change.  (Try loosening those tiny screws with 20/40 eyesight!)

Just some thoughts.

Would the new remote will control all input on a bda-1, can it be able to power on/off also. Thank you

The buttons themselves are roughly the same size as the BR-2, but I've tried to design the silk screen to be easier to read. It will be printed in white. The problem I had with dark screen ink on a silver remote is that in a dim room, it's all gray. One upshot of the new remote is that the volume and mute buttons are larger and different shaped, so at least you can feel for those.

The batteries aren't really any easier to change, but since we're using a new IC and there is no backlighting, you'll have to change them far less often. I imagine even with heavy use, a set of batteries should last for years.

Have you considered designing a remote with all of the above features....
...and rechargeable (by USB or something)?

cheers

Yeah, that's a cool idea. We have. This remote project was done almost entirely by me and I'm just a dummy sales guy, not a real engineer. We wanted to keep the engineers working on far cooler and more fun stuff than that. so I took the guts of the BR-2 with only minor PCB changes and designed new and less expensive mechanicals around it.

^ bravo. I wasn't being critical -- the BR2 is a classic, withstanding run-overs by humvees, etc.
keep it up.

One thing i dont like with the old ones is the small buttons and all the same size.
I will have 2 of these.

If it fully switches the inputs on the BDA3, which apparently it does, then I’m seriously interested.
And black is good for me

At least volume and mute will work, not sure about the inputs

I think if you read Gary's brief FAQ you'll find the answer...

I'm curious if the power button will toggle on/off both a Bryston BDP and BDA simultaneously.

Cheers,
Robert

James,
Just received my new BR-4 remote, really look great. I think I will have to program it as it only work on some input on my BDA-1(#1-opto-1, 6-spdif-1, 7-spdif-2, 8-aes-ebu and 9-usb). As I have not receive a manual with it, does I can use the BR-2 manual to program it.  Thank you.
