New Chassis Demonstration
« on: 13 Sep 2011, 11:32 pm »

Yep- There's absolutely nothing on it!  :D This is our new hand made enclosure that has 100% welded seams and is made from 18ga steel. It's heavy and built extremely well!

As you can tell, these need allot of prep work. They will be standard issue on all new NS-40's and our other heavy models. They will cost $50.00 extra as an option for lighter amps.

Enclosure size: 17x10x3 inches (LxWxH)

18ga should be equivalent to 1.02mm.

Are these the same dimensions as per prior NS-40 enclosures?

It's the exact same size. I use this size for most amplifiers.

This NS-40 has our upgraded tube sockets installed and is using the chassis shown in the O.P. The heavier metal is fantastic to work with! Making the inside black was a nice touch as well.

Believe it or not, a great deal of the internal signal path is shown. It has to be connected to the outside world as of this photo. Much of the NS-40's performance comes form extremely low signal processing.

NS-40 w/ Birdseye Maple trim + new custom 18ga steel chassis.

Taken from our new wiring shop. I will have some more photos soon. The new chassis has rounded edges and the bends are smoother.

Are those phenolic (Amphenol/micanol, etc.) sockets? Do you find them to sound better than ceramic?

They're called Micalex and are the best sockets I know of. The contacts are fork shaped and actually bite into the metal of the tube pins. There is absolutely no mechanical play.

Due to their design, there can be no noise from poor socket contacts. Ceramics hardly ever have issues but these are a couple steps above them.

Have you compared these sockets to the audionote one's I sent you?

The Audionote One's are extremely good sockets. I was thinking about this today. Are they better than the Micalex?

The One's achieve their hold on the pins similarly to a standard ceramic socket. They are what I'd call a precision ceramic socket. Mechanically, the Micalex are a little sounder since they do not allow the tube to move even a millimeter. Electrically, I would say they are extremely close.

i like the looks of your new amps a lot more than the old ones. may i suggest perhaps an option for transformer covers for those that prefer a sleeker look?

The company that makes my new enclosures can make transformer covers. I will get with them on that as well as a tube cover.
