Also, according to Dave Goldstein, exhibitors were only down a few from last year and Saturday's attendance was approx. 600, which is about a normal level.  He was hoping for rain today to drive up attendance and it is raining as I type.

Well, after the Calgary snow storm, missing our morning flight from Calgary, stuck at Calgary airport for a whole day sitting at food court bench to work from my laptop, 4 hours fly to Toronto, 3 hours drive to border, 2 hours waiting in line to cross because Obama is coming to Detroit the next day, 7 hours unpacking and setting up, God knows how many hours of Ian's tweaking of the demo gear, one skid of demo gear only arriving at 3pm the first day of the show, we are finally in business of our first AK Fest!

Well I barely have internet access from home, so I'm just now able to post my impressions of Saturday at AKFest 2010...

Reacquainted with several ACer's and pre AC friends from the Decware forum.  Also had a chance to speak with Gary Weaver (senior editor from Positive Feedback) whose writings I've always "sync'd" with.  And of course spoke with several vendors.  But everyone seemed to be avoiding the Monster Cable room.

The rooms were much better (bigger and varied) than in 2008.  The Salk/VanAlstine and Modwright/Bamberg rooms were a couple of the bigger/nicer sounding and each used multiple setups.  Dan Wright was using the same transport on his big rig I use (an Onix CD-3 CDP)!  And I saw 3 open reel machines (2 in use, 1 in the swap meet).  Plus I won a door prize (cleaning/leveling tools for a turntable, which is good because I never use the old turntable I've got partially because I didn't have that stuff).

Other rooms that I particularly enjoyed were the Fritz Audio, Classic Audio Reproductions, and Tom Evans Audio Design.

Frank Van Alstine had equipment in two rooms (Salk and Nate's Audio) with his "special recipe rope speaker cables in both.  Jim's speakers sounded great, especially his new ones (the cabinetry were museum/heirloom quality and I told Mary Salk that they would put I really nice solid Cherry furniture to absolute shame).  Nate had a wonderful demo recording of various sounds coming from outside the room, but only if you sat in "the" chair.  His speakers were high quality build/sound and I'd say even higher value.

Day two photos added to the gallery link above.

Here's one of the reel-to-reel rigs in action at the Jolida room... I belive it was playing Pink Floyd when I was in there.

Next years AKfest date has been set for May 1st and 2nd, 2010 at the Sheraton Inn, Novi Michigan (Suburb of Detroit). Last year some 50 manufacturers exhibited their components and more are expected this year.  :D

Take care.
Steve

Well after bringing up the AKfest, I was not able to attend this year.  :(
Missed seeing many friends. Well there is always next year.

Cheers.
