Well I made the leap of faith yesterday and placed my order with Clayton for a pair of X-3s. I hope to have them by the end of the month.
As the new X speakers start to trickle out there, I hope owners will come here and share their experience.

Congrats Shakey.... I sold just about all my collected stereo stuff from the 70"s /80's /90' to fund a purchase of a set of Spatials. Some good stuff from a Marantz model 18 to Zu Omans,DCM time windows,MG II... and yes a set of Emerald Physics CS 3's . The CS'3 Sold me on OB and Spacials. I have not taken the leap as of yet because at 65 this will be my last , better be my last speaker.I have $3000.00 to work with. I do have a set of Ushers in the family room. This set will be in a dedicated music room, 12.5 x 13.5 , powered by a Manley Stingray iPod. My hesitation is do I go with the old M4 / M3 Turbos or move up to the M5 Shpphire. I was so loving the compression driver and a bit afraid of the new design. The Manley is voiced at 6ohms so that to is a concern. What speaker did you own before the X-3's ? Enjoy your leap.

jazzman,
I have owned nearly 35 different pairs of speakers in the last 15 years. But I have klipschorns right now and I really love them. After having owned Danny Ritchie's Super V OB speakers, I know how addictive that sound can be. I have high hopes for the X-3.
After speaking with Clayton, my advice would be to go with the Sapphires.

Wow 35 pairs in 15 years. The X-3 should cure your speaker disease . Ya think the electronics might be an issue ?

Well I made the leap of faith yesterday...
Congratulations! :thumb: :thumb:
What finish / color did you go with? Did Clayton say anything about breaking them in, how long that might be and what to expect in the meantime?

Pretty sure electronics have never been an issue. I am just the guy that likes to try new things and never sits still for long.

The jury is still out on the finish.
Clayton says ~100 hours or so for complete break in. But they should sound very good right out of the box.

That is the finish I told Clayton for mine too. But I'm having second thoughts. It almost looks too "faux" in the pictures. Maybe it will look much better in person. Please report what you think, I may end up getting mine sprayed.

Photos and first impressions ASAP please!
I'm leaning towards the X5 strictly due to budget. Curious on the finish options you guys mentioned. Are there stain color choices available? The first production model appears to be natural or clear. Are darker finishes available?

Clayton sent me these pics, I don't think he would mind me sharing.
This is the lighter finish

FREAKING beauty! Man, both look amazing!

Thanks Shakey, I'm digging that darker finish.

Thanks Shakey, Like em both. Is that the Sapele or Zebrano wood ? I am ready to jump in on the M5 s's. There are several choices of wood and finish I am down to the Sapepe or Zebrano. What power you using for the X-3's?
-
Jazzman,
I'm fairly certain that the X3 and X5 shown above are a laminated solid wood baffle, where the M5 and M3 sapphires will be MDF core with real Walnut and Sapele veneer options.
What looks like wood grain on the X series is actually the narrow sheets of wood used to make up the lamination of solid wood.

I will be using a Decware Torii II (25 watts/channel) with a Tortuga Audio LDR preamp.

ahh, love that look. I think the Sapele and Zebrano will have some grain in it, event with the veneer. Then there is always auto wrap.
