Dayna Kurtz - Beautiful Yesterday Track 10 shook the floor at Audio Connection's with a pair of Vandy 5'as and it also has two of my favorite tracks for evaluating systems

Amsterdam Crown - nice vocals
I Got It Bad And That Ain't Good (duet with Nora Jones) good system you can make out that they are standing side by side good track for imagine.

Some great recs so far  :thumb:

I would HIGHLY suggest Thunder by S.M.V. Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller, and Victor Wooten together  There are some tracks that will give your woofers a serious workout

Tangerine Dream - Lilly On The Beach (From the Lilly On The Beach album).

You could always just download the "MTX illegal bass test).  If you do, I cannot be held responsible for what happens.  I literally shake the foundation of the house when I play it through my sub.  :D

I have used the Eagles song "Hotel California" on the "Hell Freezes Over" album for kick drum.  Also the song "I can see clearly now" from the Holy Cole Trio album "Don't smoke in bed" is good for a stand up bass.  These are not as deep as some of the other bass recommendations but I thought I would throw a few out there.

Cheers,
Tom

Posted this after seeing the band in concert. Bass, bass, bass.

They sometimes refer to Sunn 0))) (pronounced "sun" and named after amplifiers!) as sludge metal. There is none of metal's fast paced riffs. This band is all SLOW AND LOW. Bass heads take note. The bass was felt for the entire duration of the show. Unrelenting waves of it. Beautiful, slow and cathartic. Topped off with massive use of smoke machines and the band members all wearing full-length hooded robes that obscured their faces while they played. Perhaps the show would best be referred to as a "sonic experience" than "concert" in the normal sense of the term. But well, well worth it. Their new album Monoliths and Dimensions is excellent, and will put the bass end of your system to the test. Sunn 0))) recommends "maximum volume for maximum effect." And it does have a visceral effect.

Eryka Badu's Baduzium has some prominent bass, but I don't know the lowest notes' frequencies.

Agreed, I used "rimshot" when I was auditioning speakers for bass depth.  Really, all of her albums go pretty deep, and seem to be recorded well.

Planet Drum...Mickey Hart

Track 7, Temple Caves

This track has very low bass produced by some, name escapes me, Japanese drums and it will vibrate your windows. :)

For a stupendously high-level and low-frequency orchestral bassdrum, listen to Reference Recording's Stravinsky--Firebird on the sampler disc Tutti, RR-906CD*, track 5.  Makes the bassdrum in Telarc's old recordings of the Holst wind suites sound a bit wimpy by comparison.

* and of course on the original RR-70

Thanks guys!  I've ordered several CD's.  Special thanks to oneinthepipe for the Baduzium download.  It's great to see so much traffic on the board.   I think we can close this down now--don't want to distract people from asking or talking about Salk speakers.  Thanks again!

Laurie Anderson - Life On A String, track 6 makes the walls vibrate if the sub is on. It really is more a feeling than auditory.
Mickey Hart's already been mentioned.

Try the American Beauty Soundtrack...
Can't go wrong there, lots of bass.  Also try the Thin Red Line Soundtrack as well.
