Centre channel to match IB1's ?
« on: 23 Jan 2004, 11:19 am »
Hi,

I'm about to purchase a pair of IB1's and am also considering an IB1-MC to go with them as a centre channel.

However, is the new CB6 a good tonal match to the IB1's as a possible alternative ? I will try and audition one obviously but wondered if people here have listened to it and can comment.

I would just go with the IB1-MC but am concerned that even with shielding it may not be enough to prevent distortion on my Sony TV (when I auditioned the IB1's (unshielded) 4ft from the TV they bent the picture !

Cheers,

John

Hi John,

The CB6 uses the same mid and tweeter as the IB1 but the woofer from the TLE sub.
Tonally it will certainly match the IB1 - it will just not take as much power.

Hi,

Thanks again James for your quick reply.

I wil ltry and audition a CB6 alongside a pair of IB1's and see how it compares.

Physically it would fit into my environment easier than an IB1MC and I'm not actually that bothered with movie 5.1, though I am looking in to DVD-A and SACD.

Cheers,

John

Hi John,

Yes SACD and DVDA recommend identical speakers all round so that is certainly part of your decision.
