Alternatives to Skylan 24-D for Omega Super 3R?
« on: 21 Nov 2009, 08:33 pm »
I just picked up a pair of the Omega Super 3R speakers, and am wondering if there are more affordable alternatives to the Skylan 24-D stands for these speakers?

So far, I found these Sanus Steel Foundations SF-26b stands, but they are made of steel and look like they have less mass loading capacity than the Skylans:  http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00069DRYG/ref=ord_cart_shr?_encoding=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&v=glance

Any idea how they would stack up sonically vs. the Skylan 24-D?

And are there any other speaker stands that are particularly synergistic with the Omega Super 3R?

I haven't owned the Skylan stands but have owned the Sanus you refer to. First off, they are a pain to load. Also, I wasn't impressed with the steel plate at the bottom, it wasn't as rigid as I would've liked.
Last point, if you want to try the Sanus, they are $99 at parts express.

Hi mshan,

Thanks for your post and I would loon into Plateau. They are good and easy to fill.

Thanks,
Louis

Hi Louis:

I just put them on my home theater speaker stands (Sanus Basic Foundations 24) and impression is that they might work better on mdf than steel.

True?

Which specific Plateau speaker stands would you recommend for my Omega 3R?

And what does moving up to the Skylan stands do?

One more question for Louis:

How do you think the Jolida JD-102B will synergize with your Omega 3R speakers?

Hi mshan,

Thanks and the jolida will sound great. The miniwatt is another that is too good to  be just $250.

The F series is good and 24" tall will do it.

Thanks,
Louis

Hi Louis:

Is either of the Miniwatt or Jolida particularly synergistic with the Omega Super 3R?

And would the DMN speaker cable I saw you mention in another thread be the speaker cable recommended with either amp and the Super 3R?

May I also ask what gains could be expected from the Skylans vs. the Plateau F series speaker stands you mentioned?

Many pardons,

I didn't see that this was in a Manufacturer's Circle.

I deleted my post.

I can heartily recommend the Paradigm S-Series stands (and a bag of sand from home depot). $129 retail here in Canada.

Hi mshan,

Thanks and the Miniwatt is very good with them. Great value too. I own one myself.

The skylan has a larger capacity of fill and the extra mass is better.

Great looking stand Dave. Thanks for posting.

Thanks,
louis

I've owned both the Paradigm stands mentioned above and Skylan stands.  The Skylans are much, much more substantial.

Did you sand fill the Paradigm? (a must IMHO)
