Icon RJ45 Speaker Output Pin Spec

Connecting Pin-1 and Pin-8 will activate Icon equalizer for use with S-1.

[Note that I just updated the image to answer the follow up questions. The original image has notation confusion using L/R instead of +/-]

There are two different RJ-45 jacks for L and R.  It doesn't makes sense that the pins for each contain L and R signals.  As I asked in the other thread, does this really mean + and - on each?

Any preference on whether the signals should be connected together at the amp end (e.g. to drive a more normal 2 wire speaker cable), or use Cat 5 to keep the wires separate right up to the speaker?

I'll take this load off Jason's back: last I checked, every speaker cable on Earth has at least one hot and one ground wire. We could play semantics, but oddly enough I've always thought of the two red/black wires and right/left as well. There is one speaker cable per RJ-45 jack. Clear enough?

The original diagram has notation confusion.  Albireo guessed correctly that they should be +/- instead of R/L

We have heard that some customer connect Icon to Nakamichi Soundscape speaker using the standard cat5 ethernet cable. NEVER DO THAT and you will short the Icon.
RJ45 to RJ45 connection is strictly for use between Icon and S-1.
We have our own proprietary pin specifications.

Just to be sure.
Can I take Cat6 ethernet cables, add de RJ45 connectors according to the specifications in this thread, and connect the S1 using these cables ?

I need a cable of 5 meters and a cable of 3 meters long. Is this length a problem ?

thanks in advance

What is "de" ?
You can use RJ45 coupler to extend the cable or make one using the RJ45 pin spec that we published. Make sure you do not connect pin 1 and Pin 8.
Accidentally connect + wire to - wire will kill the Icon, be careful.

Hi Jason,
'De' is the dutch word for 'The', I mistyped.
I am using the S1 speakers, I thought that pin 1 and 8 need to be connected to activate the icon equalizer ?

When you connect S-1 with Icon using ethernet cable, the Icon internal EQ will be activated. S-1 simply connect pin 1 and 8 together.
