Is this acceptable?
« on: 20 Oct 2018, 08:16 pm »
Is it acceptable for me to ask the group for opinions on the sale price I should post to Agon?

If not, please delete.

Thanks -

Try using the search feature on hifishark.com to find historical asking price data on your specific piece of gear, across many different used marketplaces.

Since a lot of folks remove their asking/sale price here on AC contrary to posting RULES. It won't help searching here.

The search I suggested above will capture ads from AC as well.   But like you say, the content (or lack thereof) may not be helpful.          :duh:

I don't see anything in the guidelines that would preclude someone from asking members opinions about pricing an item for sale.

Here's a free site with price history: http://www.kruipen.com/

I can't vouch for it's accuracy, but better than nothing.

Thanks timind, I tried it on a couple items I know the price on and it came back with fairly accurate results.  Better than the pay for sites.

Dunno about this site......it seems lame.

For example:

I search on "hadcock 242" (I have one up FS on 2 sites) and it returns nothing.

I do the same exact search on audioshark.com and it returns:

5 live ads, and
42 sold / expired ads.

 :dunno:

That site had the price inflated on the unit I am going to take to Agon.

It is the Cary 100t DAC that I posted about 2 - 3 weeks ago.

Retail was $2,800 and I got a small break from the dealer that I buy from, but DAC's are not a good investment these days.

My situation @ the house is that I have lost my listening space to my 2 yr old twins and now in a desktop set up.

The Cary just does not fit my office.

So, looking at historical data I will hopefully get $700 or so including shipping and Paypal.

I have no original box or power cable so I will be including a Shunyata Venom and another $100 in NOS tubes.

So, that values the deck at about $500.  Horrible return on investment.

Used prices change over time as gear gets old, discontinued, or just goes in and out of favor.

And remember, what you see are "ask prices" not actual transaction prices -- which are almost certainly less.

I see The Music Room had one listed in June/July for $969. Who knows what it actually sold for. I checked Hifi-Shark for expired listings.

If it's any consolation, I expect to place my Gustard X20u on the block within 6 months and I'll count myself very lucky if I can get 45% to 50% of my buy price.
