Renewing my passion
« on: 18 Sep 2024, 08:31 pm »
Ah, the bug has bitten me again...

I can remember when the audio bug first got... yea I thought i was into audio, but, made the mistake of visiting a place called stereo exchange in NYC, and heard a pair of Dalquest dq-10's ... and I was hooked.

I was one of those audiophiles who traded out equipment almost monthly. But then life got in the way, and I put all that to the side for a while. Now, I am back and still chasing that elusive sound.

Yes I am now older and wiser (supposedly) but still chasing the perfect system .. for the moment...though i am old enough now to relize, that wgat was perfect fr me one day is not the next.

so never ends :)

Yes, we all go thru phases, mostly driven by life situations.  For me it was the serious illness/death of my son followed by divorce.  Went from trying to obtain the ultimate system, down to perfectly adequate gear.  Then the internet hit and I started chasing my tail and weird stuff (like SET's and single driver speakers).  Then discovered active speakers and now have wireless active monitors with built-in room EQ.

Hey!

Welcome to Audio Circle. Yes, I remembered the Stereo Exchange. I used to go there, walking around peaking inside those listening rooms and browsing the wall of used equipment. I was in my mid-late teens at the time. I actually bought my first preamp, a used Sonographe and used Magnepan 15QR there. They are still around but smaller now, haven't been to their new place... going to audio stores these days is not like back then where you can just walk right in.

No I'm not the type that would swap monthly... well, first I don't have money to do that. And I'm a bit of a DIYer so I tend to build or mod things to what I feel sound right to "me" Most of my audio components are now 20+ years old.

Anyway, I'm still in NYC in Queens. Are you still in NYC?
