Assessing Incoming Power Quality
« on: 14 May 2022, 02:11 pm »
Other than buy and try are there ways to assess/monitor incoming power quality to see if your system would likely benefit from a regenerator?
Thanks,
Allan

It's highly unlikely that your system will benefit from a regenerator!
What symptoms are you having?
Are they 24 by 7, or only at certain times of the day or week?

Of course you can convince yourself that you are hearing improvements with a regenerator, a nicely wrapped power cable, etc. That is what matters ultimately but it may not be reality.  Unless you have an abnormal condition like an amp with a poorly designed power supply, this is a solution in search of a problem.

  • To whom more was given more will be required.
    • Never go to a psychiatrist, adopt a straycat or dog. On the street they live only two years average.

To monitor power quality you will need a old Fluke 43 or 435, 438 unfortunately they have German prices.

Smart plugs with energy monitoring might provide you with a graph of voltage over time but they won't give you the shape of the power curve. A Kill-A-Watt meter will give you a real time voltage reading but no graph over time that I know of.

Hey!

Well, "buy and try" is the only way to know for sure.

As for AC power regenerator. I live in NYC so I'm sure my AC power quality is not good. Back in 2002 not long after PS Audio came out with this AC power regenerator thing. I thought why not give it a try and if I don't like it I can return it. So, I bought the P600. Now 20 years later I still have it running my whole system and I wouldn't want to run my system without it.

But that's just my experience. Depending where you are, your result may vary.
