Title: L.A. audio show anyone?
Post by: EdRo on 28 May 2017, 02:34 am
If anyone on the Left Coast is interested in hearing Nimbus...EMM amps will be using a stunning example of the Nimbus at the L.A. audio show, room 508. Ryan is up and swinging, and these very special "Nuke Orange" Nimbus that he's personally delivering have a pair of AudioTech mids that seem to take this cab to new heights of performance. I haven't heard them, so please...if anyone seeing this show could check out this room and give me feedback on how they sound???

Very perceptive, my good man!!! I think Steve will be tickled pink with this set. The color is amazing! I would never have thought to use a hue named "Nuclear Orange" on a speaker. Until you see it, it's hard to imagine. Everyone that sees it loves it. But what sets this set apart are the blending of the drivers; the mids make these the best sounding Nimbus ever!

Best,

Thanks Anand, I remembered this thread from years ago! In fact, I purchased Steve's KEF 104/2's back in 2013 so Steve could purchase this long awaited pair of Nimbus. I'm happy that Steve is finally getting his order fulfilled.

I'm sorry Anand, I personally haven't heard this set. This is the opinions of people critiquing them for me before they were packed up for the trip to L.A. A pair of guests were visiting St. Louis fron New Zealand, I believe.

I haven't heard EMM Labs amps or dac before. Anyone here have any experience with them?

Has anyone had a chance to listen to the EMM Labs equipment thru the Nimbus at the L.A. Audio show yet?

It looks like Ryan is no longer using wavecor drivers given he retired the breezes and these don't have the wavecor on them.

I know that both Ryan and Pete were impressed with the AudioTech mids. They both thought that this iteration is the best sounding Nimbus thus far; and thats what it's all about, right? If we can improve our designs, we will.

I love the AudioTech mids on my Joules.  I know everyone else that purchased Joules went with Accuton.  I have never regretted my choice.

Finally, Audio Bacon mentions, or at least shows the Vapor/EMM room, about halfway down the report.

I stepped into the Vapor on Sunday. The music was up very loud and the chairs were too close(small room). Overall they sounded good, but I did feel like the tweeter wasn't well integrated. Although it had great detail, it sort of stuck out from the rest of the drivers. I will say the cabinets were beautiful in person.

Between the tweeters, loud level, and a lively conversation in the back of the room, I bailed after 1 song.

MDolphin is a customer waiting on a set of 3 perfect storm monitors who lives in the LA area and who was once a defensive back for the Miami Dolphins (MDolphin).

I may have missed it but what's the scoop on Perfect Storm monitors?

I may have missed it but what's the scoop on Perfect Storm monitors?

Ryan has been working on two sets of PS monitors with centre channels for both MDolphin and the owner of an audio website since sometime in 2015. Pete can correct me if I'm wrong, the info I have is obviously second hand.

The PS monitor is basically the top cabinet of the Perfect Storm, an 8" three way.  One set will be using the custom 8" midrange in the Perfect Storm.  That owner has very capable subs he'll be using to fill in below 120Hz.  The other sets will use a customized version of the Neo motor C220 and provide bass of their own to below 70Hz.

Pete-

I'm confused.  There are multiple threads, posts etc about Vapor and people waiting on their speakers for 2+ years but you don't address any of that.  How about letting all of us know what the status of Vapor is and the road map?  A little bit of honest communication might go a long way if Vapor is going to continue.

Hello JTWRace. As far as I know, Vapor is going to continue. Ryan is getting caught up with his backlog, and I'm taking on more of the Aurora/Nimbus duties since I build those cabs. I've had to stop working due to injury, but I'm able to do more every day. I'm very excited about my new prototype, and I have a new construction method worked out for building Aurora and Nimbus that will reduce build times. As far as the builds already in the que, Ryan is able to get more done every day. He has stopped taking orders, as far as I know, to continue to focus on what needs to get done. That's all I can say. I apologize for the extreme delays people have suffered waiting for their speakers, and I want to thank those that have given encouragement to Ryan and his family along this tough path. I can say that things are getting done!

While it's nice that you address the post I think it'd be wise for the owner(s) of Vapor to do so.

Those waiting on builds have been contacted by Ryan.  Pictures of the systems ready for immediate shipment will be posted very soon.  Among them, Derecho, Cirrus 2.0, Arcus.

C'mon, chill out Jason. Ed works for Vapor and he and Pete are perfectly qualified to speak for Vapor. They are both intimately involved in the process.

I heard exactly what Ed said from Ryan directly at AXPONA: "Ryan is able to get more done every day. He has stopped taking orders, as far as I know, to continue to focus on what needs to get done."

Let's leave it at that, and once Vapor starts taking new orders they (Ryan OR Pete OR Ed) can address what the future holds.

Now let's get this thread back on topic from this discussion.

What are you talking about by "chill out"?  It was a simple question and I'm totally chill.  It's beautiful weather today on the water.  Considering the incredible delays to many customers it is a fair question.

If you'd like to start a new thread, jtwrace, by all means do so. This thread was an attempt on my part to get some feedback about the L.A. Audio show. Were you there? Would you like to ask about this particular set of Nimbus?  Maybe ask a paint question? Anything related to THIS thread?

The pic from the Vapor/EMM room looked very nice.  I can only imagine how good it sounded with the the DA2 DAC (I have a DAC 2X and a Meitner MA-1) and the rest of the stuff.
