Title: GIK 244 Placement ?
Post by: Wig on 24 Dec 2017, 02:37 am
Guys,

Curious if the 244s can be placed near the center of the front wall versus directly behind the loudspeaker (recommended placement) since my speakers are transmission loaded from the front?

Thanks,
Wig

SBIR will happen on the WHOLE wall so in theory we would cover the WHOLE wall to fight it. Basically you are fine to put it in the middle.

I have six GIK 244 panels (bought back when they were called "full range") and have them set up at first reflection points on front and side walls plus angled into the front corners.

Not particularly effective in my man cave that is Cardas Golden Cuboid shaped, but highly effective elsewhere.

Although my speakers are rear ported, I have 4 on the front wall. 2X24X24 and 2x48X24 angled in the corners, all 244's 2X24x24 on the back wall behind me. Very effective here. Best tweak I have done in 10 years!
The 24X48 can be made to stand for moving around.

Wig, Hoping I can ask a question without high jacking your thread. Since people are talking about putting 244 panels in the front corners at an angle, what is the best material to put behind them in the hollow area?

Thanks for letting me jump in Wig :thumb: I'll leave it at that.

OC705 and some air space.

I sent you a pm on 12/9 I think with links for reading if that helps.

Best,
Anand.

Thank you Anand, I didn't recall seeing what material to use. I will take a look at the links again.

Take Care,

Greg

Guys,

Thanks for your responses and suggestions! My room is also a Cuboid and have an entry way on each sides of the speakers which I imagine does not allow the bass to build up but moving the 244s near the center front wall will at least minimize early reflections. I also have 2 244s on home made stands on the side wall for early reflections.

gregfisk,

No problem, it's a question we all can learn from.
