Pioneer dv-343 dvd+r compatible?
« on: 12 Apr 2004, 07:57 pm »
Can someone please confirm that this player is dvd+r compatible before I  buy one and get it modded with a tube output stage. There's a website that says it is indeed dvd+r compatible, but I'm not sure if I can trust them...
Thanks

Not sure why you'd want a 3 year old Pioneer...

Anyway, it might be hard to find someone here with that model, as it's not terribly common. I had a DV-333 (non-progressive version of the DV-343), and it would play burned DVD's. Just don't recall if they were -R or +R discs as it was a few years ago I tried it.

My experience with the newest Pioneers is that they'll play damn near anything round and shiny you put in the drawer.  I have a DV-260S in my B-room rig that plays +/-/RW, unfinalized audio discs, mp3...pretty much bombproof.

Thanks for your help guys!

This is what I want to upgrade my source with:       http://decware.com/DVD/select.htm

Of course if I had more money I'd go for the Sony,

http://decware.com/SACD/sacd.htm

but for now I mostly listen to redbook cds or play a dvd from time to time...

You can pick up a DV-333/343 and try it out. I do think it'd play a +R, but can't say for sure as I no longer own my 333.

And if it didn't work, I'm sure you could sell it for about what you paid for it. It's a damn nice little player. Too bad they don't make their entry level decks like that anymore...
