I received an e-mail from Adcom about the innards of their GDV-850 and here is how they replied: The transport we are using is DVS. The Crystal DAC's are CS4396. The DSP is ES6038.
I did a little research on the DVS transports. It seems that the transport Adcom decided to use is a PC based transport. I'm not sure about the technical merits of using such a transport, however, Ayre uses a PC based transport in their CX-7 CD player. The DAC's are excellent as they represent Crystal's current offering. They are not the latest CS4398 DAC's offered by Crystal. ESS's Vibratto DSP ES6038 is the same DSP DVD-Audio/SACD DSP used by Denon in their previous DVD-A1 and DVD-3800.
