WTB: SET Integrated < $1200
« on: 16 Oct 2018, 04:05 pm »
Looking to move my setup in a different direction and am now looking for a SET integrated amplifier (the smaller the footprint the better) for less than $1000.  Would like at least 2 inputs and a remote would be nice, but not required.  Looking at brands like Line Magnetic, Sophia Electric, Wright Audio, Decware, etc.

Thanks in advance!

What speakers are you using?

Other than 805/845/211 (and a few other oddities), SET's tend to be relatively low output power and require reasonably efficient speakers for decent sound.

300B and KT88 is typically about 8w or less, 2A3 less than 5W, 45 and EL84 about 2 watts.

The are various options out there, but you do need the right speaker match.

I'm planning on using it with a pair of Omega Super Alnico Monitors (SAMs).  They're fairly efficient at 94 dB/w and present an easy 8-ohm load.

I have four different Inspire single ended units designed and built by Dennis Had that I would part with if interested. Specifically a FireBottle amplifier, PSE amplifier with IIPS, LP-27a and an LP-3. Love them all and hate to sell any of them. But I’d part with them to raise some cash for the right offer. Let me know if interested further.

Having gone down this path myself over the last couple years (and as an owner of Omega Compact Audio Monitors) I'd suggest you reach out to one of the custom amp builders out there. This site

http://www.glowinthedarkaudio.com/

is a good place to start if you don't know it yet. I have a couple pieces by Oliver Sayes (a 45 amplifier, a phono stage) that have brought me tremendous pleasure.

My personal favorite, and would also be an option for consideration,is a Coincident Technology Dynamo SE MKII.Several stellar reviews on line.Fitted with vintage tubes it just has that "Je ne sais quoi"
