New Years Day was beautiful because it rained all day here in the desert. The weather was cold, blustery and wet, perfect to stay indoors and catch up on movies. "Strange World" was perfect to brighten up an unusually dark, cloudy day. At first I had my doubts about this film but after the first 15 minutes it settles into an action packed groove.

The elephant in the room is that Disney's "Strange World" includes Black & LGBTQ characters, I'm OK with that, kids are OK with that, but some adults have their doubts. If you are one of those, skip this film. If you want to rant about the direction family entertainment is going I'll bin this thread.

Small kids will be mesmerized by the primary colors and non-stop action, everything in the background is always moving. The plot involves parents, a teen who whats his independence, efforts to save a dying plant and living in harmony within your world, all the while exploring a totally new strange world.

The animation, creatures and scenery are quite well done, I haven't seen "Avatar 2" yet but while watching "Strange World" I was thinking James Cameron wasted $250M - $400M.

Adults rate "Strange Worlds" 73% on RT but kids will give it 100%

Rotten Tomatoes aggregates commercially produced reviews, which Disney greatly influences via ad. pressure on editors and the least scrupulous reviewers using writing supplied by Disney.

Independent opinions have not been so kind:

I haven't seen it.

Since I am a big kid at heart, I think those old grumps with funny hair reviewing "Strange World" are not fun at all. I have not found reviews written by children but parents reviews are overwhelmingly positive.

Sounds like it might be a very interesting movie, probably worth paying to see in the theater for the artistry alone!  And it seems very different than the standard fare, and is keeping up with the times.  I may check it out, thanks!

IMO at this point Disney has to dig themselves out of a hole. Even if they make a good movie, it's like getting a gift from a local known house burglar... you don't trust it even if they're reformed. And so far they're continuing the hole instead.

  • Audio - It's all a big fake.
Sounds like a fun movie.  I'll probably watch it with my daughter (who is gay), always great to have characters she can relate to.

Watched it with the kids last weekend on Disney Plus, it was a fun movie.

I was very disappointed and stopped halfway through until I realized oh wait this isn't Pixar, it's Disney's in-house studio lol. I'm so used to Pixar's really tight, compelling stories. After adjusting expectations yeah it's fun and breezy. Amazing trippy visuals. The animation is incredible.

Great animation but I just couldn't get into it. Pretty disappointing
